N/GRV School Board Meeting Notes

 

April 20, 2017



The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on April 18.

In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the following resignations effective at the end of August: Katie Bruce, para-educator, Larry Brignone, bus driver, Karl Smith, middle school football coach, and Scott Smith, teacher and coach.

In other business, the board approved overnight travel for spring sports and activities, policy 3115 Homeless Students and accepted the receipt of a Gear Up federal grant in the amount of $13,500.

The purchase of 15 Macbook computers with Gear Up and Rural Education grant funds (not to exceed $18,900) was approved, along with the purchase of 30 iPads for grades K-3. The board also approved the surplus of a 1999 Saab vehicle abandoned on school property.

In her report, Superintendent Lisa Nelson shared that the district will be receiving Mandarin teachers again next year from the College Board and the Teachers of Critical Languages Program. An overview of the multi-purpose project was provided with the next steps being the pouring of the concrete floor for the building.

Principal Donlon shared that the school had collected nearly 1300 pounds of food for the West End Food bank as the result of a contest sponsored by students in Scott Smith and Greg Nelson’s classes. The fourth grade won with the most pounds of food donated.

The board discussed plans for sending a survey out to the community for gathering information on the school programs and facilities.
