MIXED--This past weekend saw us with some nice mornings but very wet late afternoons and evening hours. It was hard to believe that people were wearing short sleeved shirts and sandals on Saturday morning but by three in the afternoon, it was back to raincoats and boots, as it absolutely poured down rain!

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Nov. 1-7 are Nicole McKinley, Carol Blalock, Tristan Parke, Greg Parke, Elaine Britt, April Murdock, Brad McNally, Ginger Moonen, Kaden Chevalier, James Turner, Marsha Souvenir, Carol Carver, Diane Tischer, Chelsea Paulsen, Brody Ashe, Jessie Hoven, Jesse Holm, Anna Kuhn, Ryan Vincent, Aubrea Helms, Miley Montgomery, Britt Boldt, Pete Cooper, Mitchel Vik, Ashlynn Grasseth, Gary Quigley, Mary Simpson-Moonen, Lindsey Anderson, Lisa Robinson, Chris Spitzer, Starla Hanson, Phil Corbin, Linda Palmer Spieth and Elizabeth Davison.

Those celebrating anniversaries this week are Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Wika, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Dickson, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wegdahl and Ed and Sue Edminster. Here's hoping all of you with special days have truly memorable celebrations!

BEGINNING TODAY--It's lefse making time at the Norse Hall on Puget Island, as the Sons of Norway lodge members try to get those tasty treats ready for the upcoming holidays. The making and baking and selling of Norwegian goodies is from Nov. 1-3, with Saturday being the big day for buying! Everyone is welcome to come and learn how to make the rounds and you will be able to purchase them and make your own lefse or buy some already made. There will be somebody making krumkake too, so come by and check it out. If you talk to Jan Silvestri, Susan Brown, Cheryl Nelson or Virginia Ostling, they can probably fill you in on all the other details.

FRIDAY MOVIE--The free movie this Friday is an adult comedy, so if you aren't busy and would like to enjoy an inexpensive evening out, with a few laughs, then this movie is for you. This movie takes place at the Community Center in Cathlamet on Main Street at 7 p.m., and includes free popcorn!

THIS SATURDAY-- This is the last notice to all the friends and family of Jim Koziel as a gathering in his memory will take place this Saturday from 4 to 7 at the Roadkill Saloon. Come and give Betty a hug and share your favorite stories about Jim with her and the rest of the family.

FALL BACK--It's that time of year when we mess with our clocks again, as Sunday (Nov. 4) is the big change day. So before you go to bed this Saturday night, be sure to set those clocks back an hour so you can sleep in that extra hour that we lost in the Spring. I'm pretty sure we will all enjoy that extra snooze time, but we probably aren't going to like the fact that it will be dark an hour earlier as well!

MEETING--The first meeting of the month for the Sons of Norway Lodge will be held on Nov. 7, so here's an open invitation to come and check out this group, and join them if you wish. You don't even have to be Norwegian! The meeting starts at 7 p.m., at the Norse Hall on Puget Island.

FLEA MARKET--The second Saturday of this month is Nov. 10 and it will be time to head to the Wahkiakum Co. Fairgrounds and check out all the fine items at the monthly flea market from 9 to 3. With the holiday season fast approaching, now is the time to check out these sales and see what unique item you can find for yourself or for others.

WALK-N-KNOCK--Carol McClain would like me to remind you that the Lions Club annual food collecting event for our area's food banks will take place in a couple of weeks, so it's hoped you'll pick up a few extra items to donate to this worthy cause. They welcome all store bought canned goods, packaged foods and paper products, along with hygiene products, but even though your home canned foods probably taste even better, they cannot accept them, so please do not include them in a bag or box of donations. If you'd like to donate cash or write them a check so they can buy the items they need, that's always welcomed too. Please mark Nov. 17 down as your day to have some items ready to give to the Lions Club food drive! They could use some volunteer drivers, so contact Carol or Mike Backman or any other Lions Club member and let them know you'd be willing to help out.

SAME DAY--Also that same day, "A Country Christmas Bazaar" will take place at the St. James Family Center, so Nov. 17 will be a busy day! Once you've checked out things here in Skamokawa, head to the St. James Family Center and check out what they have to offer. As always, there will be lunch and the Kids Only store, where they can buy presents for their family members for only a dollar each. Now that's a great place for the kids (up to age 12) to do their holiday shopping!

FOLLOWING WEEK--During the third week of the month, we'll all be sitting down to enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner with loved ones and I hope you have a wonderful day. That very weekend, the Friends of Skamokawa will open the Redmen Hall/Central School as their Holiday Open House takes place and begins on Nov. 23. There's one more place to check out for those local, unique gifts that are housed in the historic hall. Stop by and check it out!

This also happens to be the usual time for Kyle Gribskov to showcase his great works of art, so come to Skamokawa and check things out over the Thanksgiving holiday.

GREAT GABFEST--Several members of the WHS Class of 1967 met last Saturday at Izzy's in Kelso, and we certainly had a nice gabfest going for two and a half hours or so. We had gotten a message from our classmate, Sharon McKie who said she was in the area and could meet with us for lunch, so we opted to meet near the freeway where it would be a little easier for her to find. Meeting for the day were Keith and Karen Lawrence, Phil and Elaine Rolf, David and Kathi West, Dale Jacobson, Pam Lazor, Linda Toste, Kathy Peek (all the way from Ellensburg) and yours truly. Lo and behold, once we all gathered, we found out that Sharon is actually going to be one of us now, a Pacific Northwesterner, as she's going to be living on the west side of the states from now on, as an Oregon resident. How terrific!

On a sadder note, we learned that one of our other classmates, Scheris Knight Shepard, had lost her Dad, Jim just recently. We send her and the entire Knight family our sincerest sympathies.
