The Wahkiakum County Eagle - Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Donald Ray Ostling, 74, of Longview, died Februry 14, 2019 at Hospice Care Center in Longview.

He was born to Anton and Bernice Ostling on September 3, 1944 in Cathlamet. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1962 where he enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball.

He joined the Army in 1965 and spent six years. In 1972 he married Barbara. He fished commercially for over 45 years on the Kenai Peninsula and the Columbia River, finishing his last season in the past summer.

In 2009 Barbara preceded him in death. He was also preceded by a sister Judy Ostling and a brother Duane “Pinky” Ostling.

His survivors include stepson Frank Knowles; sister Toni Sue Ostling and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

No service will be held at his request. A private burial has taken place. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
