Lady Mules overwhelm Rainier 74-13

Paige Mace passed the ball inside to post Ellie Leitz. Leitz finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Before a big crowd at Mark Morris High School on Saturday, the Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team showed why they were the number one ranked 2B team in the state, overwhelming the Rainier 74-13 Lady Mountaineers in regional basketball tournament play.

Macie Elliott, who was just selected as Player of the Year by The Daily News, scored two of her 11 points in the Lady Mules' win against Rainier. Elliott also had nine assists.

"Last night's game was a blast," Coach Rob Garrett said. "The girls were locked in and were great at the tiny details, something we've really been focusing on this week. It was a great team win to give us some momentum heading over to Spokane."

Ellie Leitz led scoring with 21 points. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Jansi Merz added 15 points and eight rebounds. Macie Elliott had 11 points and nine assists. Paige Mace contributed eight points and five assists. Charlie Ashe had eight points. Mckensi Fluckiger, Reigha Niemeyer, and Megan Leitz scored three points apiece. Kimberlee Watkins finished the game with two.

Today (Thursday) at the State 2B tournament in Spokane, Wahkiakum will face the winner of the South Bend/Auburn Adventist game at 5:30 p.m.
