Naselle sends boys, girls teams to state

The Comets celebrate a big comeback and 67-55 win against Clallam Bay in their 1B regional game on Friday at Mark Morris High School. The win sent the team to the state tournament.

The Naselle Comets boys basketball team traveled to Ellensburg for a regional game on Saturday to face Sunnyside Christian, the number one 1B seed in the state. The Comets lost 57-39.

On Wednesday, Naselle began the 1B state tournament in Spokane against Garfield-Palouse. A score was not available by the time the paper went to press.

It was a loser out game. If the Comets won, they will take on seventh seed Almira-Coulee-Hartline on Thursday at 9 p.m.

Kenzie Glenn led the Comets with 24 points in their 67-55 regional win against Clallam Bay.

Three quarters in to their 1B girls regional game on Friday night at Mark Morris, the Clallam Bay Lady Bruins seemed to have the game locked up. They were in for a big surprise when the Naselle Lady Comets outscored them 31-6 in the fourth quarter and won 67-55.

Kenzie Glenn led the Comets with 24 points. Lilli Zimmerman and Taylor Gudmundsen pitched in 15 points apiece. Peyton Dalton had five points. Jackie Steenerson and Lauren Katyryniuk added four points apiece.

The Lady Comets faced Mount Vernon Christian in the opening round of the State 1B tournament in Spokane on Wednesday. Scores were not available by press time.

It was a loser out game. If they won, they will face Almira-Coulee-Hartline at 12:15 on Thursday.
