WILD ONE--The end of last week saw us with a bit of everything out here, as it was sunny one minute, then blowing and raining the next, then a rainbow shown in the skies with sunshine and dark clouds and then it got dark and the thunder rolled and it hailed like crazy; a real Spring mix!

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from April 11-17 are Logan Britt, Andrew Emlen, Brent Mahitka, Dan Keilwitz, Bryan Ledtke, Brock Cothren, Kael McKinley, Janine Helms, Chris Doumit, Mike Crouse, Sara Havens Brown, Savannah Burdick, Stephanie Olsen, Phil Doumit, Margaret Strueby, Reggie Bonny, Mike Brown, Leota Souvenir, Gage Horman, Misty Shook, Carolyn Pedersen and 67'er Sherrolin Mace Powell.

Those celebrating anniversaries this week are Mr. and Mrs. Greg Parker, Mr. and Mrs.Mike Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Robinson. May all of your special occasions bring you lots of happy memories.

TODAY--Want to help with the summer food program for our kids that are in need? Many of you won't get this notice in time, but if you happen to buy your Eagle at the store or get your mail real early, you can still make it to the meeting at the Community Center that is being held today at 1 p.m. Suzanne Holmes wrote a good letter about their program and needs in last week's Letters to the Editor, and of course, more help is always welcomed. If you can't be there today, maybe you can contact the school and they can fill you in on how to join this group or how to donate to it.

FRIDAY MOVIE--The free movie at the Community Center in Cathlamet this Friday evening at 7 p.m., is a Documentary (NR), which appears to be suited for everybody. As always, the movie is free and so is the popcorn, and you're free to bring your own snacks in as well. All children under 12 must have an adult with them.

THIS SATURDAY: MARKET, MUSIC & MORE--First thing this Saturday morning, April 13, beginning at 9 a.m., the monthly Flea Market will be held at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds. This is located in the Youth Building, which is nicely heated, so you can shop in comfort until 3 p.m. New and used items are sold here so come on down and check it out.

At the Skamokawa Grange Hall, which is just next door to the fairgrounds, the music will be playing, as they have their "April Open Mic" invitation open to all who are interested, so sign up at 3:45 and the fun will begin at 4 p.m. Remember, this is free to all musicians and singers, and toe-tappers too, but donations are gladly accepted to help the Grange, so come on down; the coffee pot is always on!

While you're in the area, don't forget to stop by the Redmen Hall/Central School for the last weekend of their current exhibit. They are open from noon to four, Thursday through Sunday. Mark this down for next week: A brand new exhibit begins April 20, plus the "Skamokawa Swamp Opera" will hold a concert there that evening at 7 p.m.

Also on Saturday, but in the evening hours, the Bingo players will enjoy some great games at the Norse Hall on Puget Island with the doors open at 5:30 - games at 6 p.m. Cards are $5 and we hope you're one of the lucky winners of one of those cash prizes!

ON SUNDAY--In case you hadn't heard by now, one of our very own local gals is Miss Washington, who will compete in the Miss USA contest on May 2. If you haven't met her yet, now's the time to come and meet Miss Evelyn Clark and her family, as they will hold a spectacular "send off" party for her this Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m., at the River Mile 38 Brewery in Cathlamet. You are all invited to come and meet her and wish her well as she sets off on this whirlwind couple of weeks leading up to the big day down in Reno. Naturally, we wish her all the very best!

EASTER BINGO--Don't forget "Easter Bingo" on April 19, at the fairgrounds, so next Friday night, head this way and try your luck and win your Easter dinner. Now there's one more reason to head this way next week! Monies raised from this event go towards the fair in one way or another.

EASTER EGG HUNT--According to Lions Club Member Carol McClain, the annual Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt will take place next Saturday, April 20, at Skamokawa Vista Park. All the fun begins promptly at 11 a.m., so don't be late, as those kids scour the fields in no time! There are various age requirements and separate areas for them and as always, there will be prize eggs among the regular ones. Hopefully the skies are clear and the Easter Bunny is able to make a sunny appearance to greet the little ones.

ANOTHER HUNT/CARNIVAL//LUNCH--Once you finish hunting for eggs at Sk. Vista Park, be sure to head to the Wahkiakum Co. Fairgrounds for yet another Easter Egg hunt and enjoy a nice lunch while you're at it. There will also be a carnival for the kids to enjoy, so this will certainly be a fun place to be for all those young ones. I'm told that this Easter Egg hunt is for all ages so even the adults have a spot to come and hunt for eggs. I'm told they had a real blast last year, so, here's to yet another successful hunt, carnival and lunch put on by the Fair Foundation.

FASHION AND TEA--On the last Sunday of the month, April 28, there will be a "Fashion Show & Tea Party" held at the Valley Bible Church in Rosburg. This is a fund raiser for a seven year old girl named Sophia, who suffers from "Pans Disease" and you can read up on her entire story at mold2miracle.com. This event will be held at 3 p.m., and tickets will be $10, with all tickets purchased by April 15, being met with a matching donation up to $50,000. You may remember that I have mentioned the "Dress A Girl" program and the women in Southwest Washington have been making them to send to those less fortunate around the world with the idea that every girl deserves a dress, so the Fashion Show will feature these dresses. There will also be dress making kits available if you'd like to help out and it will help the group continue to reach their goal of "Dressing One Girl at a Time" for those in need. WELL WISHES--We want to send some "feel better/get well soon" wishes to Kelly Recupero, who wound up with some nasty burns and is feeling pretty miserable from those, which we all know can be horribly painful, so we truly feel for her. Here's hoping she can get some relief soon.

Also, Pamela (Everest) Priestly is recovering after a full knee replacement, so we want to send her some of our "speedy recovery" wishes, as that sometimes take a bit of time to recuperate from, especially when one is replacing a prior partial knee surgery with scar tissue, so, a bit of extra care may be required.

NICE SEND OFF--Cindi Pedersen got a nice surprise recently when a whole host of family and friends joined her at the home of her parents, Frank and Carolyn Pedersen in Longview. It was touted as a "birthday party" for her Mom, when really, it was a send off for Cindi, who is moving to Germany soon!
