It was grandma's idea, really, to give the kids a souped up lemonade stand. And the more dad thought about it, the more he liked it, and thus, the KCC Treats at the Elochoman Slough Marina was born.

The stand is named for the three big operators who will be running the shop, Kadence, 14, Corbin, 8, and Chasen, 6. Mom is Amber Cameron. She'll be there too. Dad is David Scott Cameron.

Kadence is finishing up the school year in another town, but she'll be home for the summer, to join her siblings as they learn early lessons about work, running a business, and making money.

They've got all kinds of goodies like sno-cones, popcorn, chips and candy, cotton candy and soda. They plan to add items as they learn what customers want and don't want, and start to get a handle on running a business.

"We're getting a big request for coffee," Amber said. "I think that might be the first thing that we add. Maybe hot chocolate."

Corbin and Chasen can only hand out the prepackaged items right now, but a food handler's permit is in Corbin's future. According to Amber, you just have to be able to read and pass the test to get one. And she's got them all washing their hands all the time.

"They can hold bags and talk to people," Amber said. "Give out samples. It's so cute. They're getting better at it. Last time they looked a little stalker-y."

Hours are tentatively set for 12-7 Wednesday through Saturday, but they will shift with sturgeon season and as other things happen.

"I don't know what I was thinking agreeing to this," Amber laughed. "I haven't worked in about 10 years, but this allows me to involve my family and make my own hours. The kids are enjoying it, but they're not really doing much right now. We'll have to see how this plays out."
