Astoria school of ballet celebrates 10 years

April 25, 2019

A public show will be held May 10, 7 p.m., at the Liberty Theatre, 1203 Commercial St., Astoria. Tickets are $15 general admission.

The story of The Princess & The Pea follows a prince who is searching for a Princess to marry. However, the Prince's mother (the Queen) doesn't want him to just marry any old Princess. She wants to find a real Princess for him. So, when the Princesses come to visit the Queen has them sleep on a bed of 22 mattresses with one pea hidden at the bottom.

Which Princess will feel the pea under the mattresses? Will she marry the Prince? Perfect for all ages, this ballet is colorful and whimsical and is sure to delight Liberty audiences. Original adaptation by Margaret Wall, Astoria School of Ballet.

Astoria School of Ballet was founded in 2004 by Margaret Wall and has proudly been located within The Liberty Theatre since 2012. This year's production marks the 10th year in a row that ASB will perform for area school children bussed in from local and nearby counties, offering many young students their first opportunity to see the art of live ballet performance in a beautiful, historic theater. Schools interested in attending should email theaterdirector@libertyastoria.org.

Tickets to the public performance are available in the Liberty Box Office Wed-Sat 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m. or online at libertyastoria.org.
