County: Dollar General meets code

In a June 4 written statement, Wahkiakum County officials said proposed construction of a Dollar General Store in Rosedale meets building permit and land use requirements.

Applicant Zaremba Group, LLC, is short platting a 1.19 acre lot off North Jacobson Road in Rosedale. The company wants to build a 9,100 square-foot retail store on the site.

The proposed project meets all local requirements, county Building Inspector/Planner David Hicks said in the report. The applicant will be required to control impacts during construction, and the applicant will work with the county road department to improve North Jacobson Road.

In the report, Hicks said the Building and Planning Department received five letters expressing concerns; a review of the concerns found the application met regulatory standards.

"In conclusion," the report states, "the proposed Dollar General development complies with the adopted Wahkiakum County Land Development regulations. Specifically, the critical areas regulations; building code regulations; short subdivision regulations and the Wahkiakum County Comprehensive Plan recommendations.

"Specifically, the Comprehensive Plan Designation of the Dollar General site as: Commercial Use, which has a recommended use of highway oriented developments, cafés, restaurants, auto service stations, shopping centers, retail service centers. Discouraged use: Residential development, industrial use.

"Wahkiakum County Building Section is recommending . . . the short plat application be approved and a building permit be issued."
