Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 5 – 12:11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had a racing heart rate and difficulty breathing. 3:32 a.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor’s barking dogs. 8:20 a.m. A caller said he was confronted by a woman with a machete when he visited Hornstra Beach with a grandchild. 8:23 a.m. A Puget Island resident felt threatened. 9:32 a.m. The mental health department asked the sheriff’s office for assistance in the removal of children from an unsafe situation in Skamokawa. It was later determined that the sheriff’s office was not needed. 9:35 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious van parked along SR 4 about a mile west of County Line Park. 10:18 a.m. A Grays River business reported a theft. 3:13 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone had attempted to steal a gas can. 5:34 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a Cathlamet resident to the hospital for an evaluation. 7 p.m. An individual was taken into custody and another taken into protective custody after a deputy followed up on an earlier call regarding a Puget Island resident who felt threatened. 7:33 p.m. A Puget Island resident said she was scared to go home because of someone on the premises. Because the other individual was a tenant, the caller was advised to get a court order in place as there was “no police action possible at this time.” 8:33 p.m. A septic tank alarm was activated at a Puget Island address. 8:38 p.m. A caller reported a transient sitting on the steps in front of a Cathlamet business.

August 6 - 9:43 a.m. A caller reported seeing smoke on Puget Island. The Puget Island Fire Department responded and found that someone had a fire going in an approved fire pit. 11:19 a.m. A caller said there was a deceased deer along SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 11:37 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a burglary after seeing a youth run out of her garage. He was taken into custody, but the caller declined to press charges. 5:14 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who was feeling weak and could not stand up on his own. 5:16 p.m. A caller was concerned about the safety of children who were on a raft carrying coolers and four wheelers and being towed by a boat.

August 7 – 11:02 a.m. A caller reported that a man was trying to flag down traffic on SR 4 east of Flandersville. The caller suspected the man’s vehicle had broken down. 12:38 p.m. A caller reported that she’d had an altercation the night before at a business in Cathlamet. 1:36 p.m. A caller in Cathlamet reported that a dilapidated motor home was being moved by people who appeared to be intoxicated. 2:50 p.m. A caller reported speeding vehicles on a Deep River road. 5:53 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Puget Island home. 9:26 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident complaining of stomach pain. 10:38 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he had asked three people not to return to his home. 10:48 p.m. Deputies, state patrol and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a traffic accident in Skamokawa.

August 8 – 12:40 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having trouble breathing. 12:10 p.m. A caller in Skamokawa said a woman who had helped him load his truck and spent the night in his home had stolen $37 from his wallet. A deputy spoke with the woman who said she was trying to get to Longview, while walking westbound. She said she did not steal the man’s money, but gave the deputy $28 because she did not want to argue about it. The man said he did not wish to press charges but asked to have the woman trespassed from his property. 12:18 p.m. An individual involved in a civil dispute was removing property from a Puget Island home, according to a caller. 4:48 p.m. A caller said there were several kids lying in the middle of a Rosedale road. 6:08 p.m. An individual stopped by the sheriff’s office to talk about repossessing a shed. 8:28 p.m. A caller said a family member was being harassed by an intoxicated man at the marina in Cathlamet. 9:53 p.m. A Puget Island youth said he was sleeping in a barn because of a dispute with a parent. A deputy spoke with the parent who said they were both staying in the barn while they waited for housing.

August 9 – 4:09 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was ailing and complaining of numbness on his right side. 4:39 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with back pain and a possible adverse reaction to a pain medication. 9:35 p.m. Deputies, the Puget Island Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a two car accident on Puget Island. An injury was reported. 2:27 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a family member had struck her vehicle when he left their home the night before. 4:56 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a neighbor’s children had been riding their bikes around her cars and throwing rocks at them. She had spoken to park management, but nothing had been done. Extra patrols were requested. 7:53 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 9:02 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an individual who needed a tow on Beaver Creek. A deputy made contact; the man was fine. He’d been able to contact his insurance company and was waiting for the tow truck. 9:33 p.m. A caller reported seeing lightning over KM and was concerned that a transformer may have blown. A deputy confirmed that it was lightning. He saw a strange glow on the hillside, but later reported that there were no fires and no transformers had blown.

August 10 – 8:29 a.m. A caller said that nails were exposed on the surface of the Puget Island bridge. Washington State Department of Transportation was notified. A contractor later arrived to make repairs. 9:15 p.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s office that the carpet was being replaced and to not be concerned if they see people coming in and out of a Cathlamet bank. 9:36 a.m. A caller reported that a large stray dog had been chasing a deer in the Elochoman Valley. 1:08 p.m. A caller found two spoons and a needle just east of Skamokawa along SR 4. 3:40 p.m. A caller reported that there was a dead cat on Kents Bridge. 3:47 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said there were two loose dogs on his property. The owner was notified. 5 p.m. A caller reported seeing three people smoking an unknown substance in their vehicle while parked at the marina in Cathlamet. A deputy responded. They admitted it was marijuana and no action was taken. 6:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with respiratory issues. 7:58 p.m. A caller reported that he had found a boat on a trailer hidden in some bushes at Brookfield. There was no truck, but there was fishing gear in the boat. 10:21 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident with respiratory issues and abdominal pain. 10:29 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a man carrying a suitcase on a Puget Island road. 10:41 p.m. A caller reported that a driver was running over cones on Puget Island bridge. 11:23 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale business. The owner was notified and en route.

August 11 – 12:32 a.m. An individual was taken into custody during a vehicle stop. 3:03 a.m. A Puget Island resident said a dog had been barking for the last 15 minutes. 10:17 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 1:51 p.m. A caller reported seeing an empty child’s innertube floating on the Columbia River. 3:52 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Deep River home. A domestic violence advocate met with the victim and an individual was taken into custody. 9:53 p.m. A caller was concerned about a vehicle that had been left along SR 4 in the Rosedale area because it was so close to the fog line.

August 12 – 1:13 a.m. A driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.
