Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 17 — 2:05 a.m. A caller reported that a horse was running on an Elochoman Valley road. 11:07 am. A caller requested a walk through of the Cathlamet Fire Hall after a door and window were found open. 3:54 p.m. A Little Island resident notified the sheriff’s department that he would be having target practice on his property for the next hour. 5:49 p.m. A caller reported that four cows were loose on and along Elochoman Valley Road. 8:27 p.m. A caller reported that power lines had fallen across a neighbor’s driveway in the Elochoman Valley. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department, and the PUD responded.

February 18 — 5:11 a.m. A third party reported that a Rosburg resident had asked her to call law enforcement when he heard two suspicious men outside his home. 10:33 a.m. A caller requested a deputy for a civil standby while he picked up his belongings from a Rosedale home. 1:17 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Grays River resident. Deputies responded and a neighbor said that she had seen the resident leave the home. 4:38 p.m. A school bus driver reported a stop paddle violation in Cathlamet. 5:02 p.m. A caller reported that there were six abandoned vehicles at a nearby property as well as a mobile home sitting on the edge of Birnie Slough. The caller was concerned that the mobile home might fall into the slough and that the owner did not have necessary permits. A deputy responded and left contact information for the property owner. 5:15 p.m. A caller reported that an individual may be in violation of a treatment order.

February 19 — 11:30 a.m. A caller reported that a driver had struck a a parked car in a Cathlamet parking lot and drove away. 11:44 a.m. A caller at a Cathlamet school asked to trespass an individual. 12:32 p.m. A caller reported that a man was sleeping in a vehicle parked along SR 4 in the Grays River area. The back window of the car was broken out. A deputy responded and spoke with the individual. He said he had run out of gas and had needed some sleep. 2:08 p.m. A caller reported that he could hear people shooting at elk on the east side of KM. He said he could see the elk, but not the shooters. The Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 2:46 p.m. Hope Center reported that they were testing an alarm. 4:07 p.m. The mental health department requested a deputy's assistance at a Cathlamet address. 7:32 p.m. An employee at a Cathlamet business asked to have a patrol nearby, as she was working alone until 9 p.m. 11:50 p.m. A caller said she was planning on overdosing on a medication. She said she was willing to speak to someone from mental health. A deputy and a representative from mental health responded.

February 20 — 2:53 a.m. Deputies were asked to be on the lookout for an overdue vehicle expected to be traveling between Longview and Salem. 8:50 a.m. A caller reported that his license plate tabs had been stolen. 9:53 a.m. Child Protective Services reported the abuse and neglect of a child at an Elochoman Valley home. 10:44 a.m. A medical alarm was activated at a Cathlamet home. It was a false alarm. 11:19 a.m. A caller reported that a patient had vandalized equipment at the clinic in Cathlamet. 11:29 a.m. The Grays River ambulance transported a Deep River resident to the hospital. 11:36 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet home. 3:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Alger Creek resident who had fallen. 3:11 p.m. A Puget Island resident asked for assistance, reporting that something was coming up through the vents from her basement and making her ill. She said it wasn’t an emergency. Dispatch suggested she contact the health department. 6:54 p.m. A caller reported that a man was in the back of a pickup in the parking lot of a Rosedale business gesturing and saying strange things. 7:05 p.m. A caller requested assistance after locking his keys in a vehicle with the engine running.

February 21 — 8:07 a.m. A caller reported an abandoned vehicle with a broken back window at the ferry landing. 9:44 p.m. A caller reported a traffic accident involving one vehicle on Beaver Creek. The car was off the side of the road and no one was around. DUI was suspected. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 10:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an Elochoman Valley resident with alcohol poisoning to the hospital.

February 22 — 1:39 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that two missionaries were trespassing on his property. 7:43 p.m. Dispatch attempted to contact a number after a 911 hangup. There was no answer. 9:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. She refused transport to the hospital. 10:30 p.m. A Puget Island resident accidentally called 911.

February 23 — 12:06 a.m. Dispatch contacted a Rosedale resident after she dialed 911 and hung up. She said she dialed the number accidentally. 7:36 a.m. A caller reported a power outage at an east county home. The PUD was notified. 7:37 a.m. A caller reported that he had wrecked his truck on Beaver Creek two nights earlier. 7:41 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a stolen vehicle. 8:08 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen and was partially blocking one lane of Elochoman Valley Road. The county road department was notified. 8:16 a.m. A caller reported a large tree limb blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 8:58 p.m. A caller reported that he had been flagged down by motorists. They informed him that someone was in a vehicle along the side of the road using drugs. A deputy responded.
