Mule wrestlers fall short in Mat Classic

Five Wahkiakum Mule wrestlers competed in the State Mat Classic Wrestling Tournament in Tacoma last February 21 and 22, but none came home with medals.

Jamil Dimaano, Jeremiyah Johnson, Braxton Johns, and Makayla Davis all lost their first two matches on Friday to end their seasons.

Cayden Mendez won his first match, which was against an opponent he had not been able to beat all season, according to Coach Crystal Davis. He lost his second match, and won his third, making him the lone Mule to make it to day two. His season ended when he lost his first match on Saturday.

“The kids had a great weekend at state,” Crystal Davis said on Tuesday. “Coach Frankie Mendez and I are very proud of our wrestlers. We had a lot of young wrestlers this year and to take as many wrestlers to state as we did was very impressive.”
