Property tax deadline extended to May 31 in Wahkiakum County

Here is a press release from Wahkiakum County Treasurer Tammy Peterson regarding the payment of property taxes.--Editor

To respond to the economic impacts stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, Wahkiakum County Treasurer Tammy Peterson encourages property owners who are financially able to pay first half or full year property taxes by the due date of April 30th. Your property taxes fund essential services in state and local government, including the Town of Cathlamet, Schools, Fire Districts, Port Districts, Cemetery Districts as well as your Sheriff's department, County Road and other key county departments. Without the cash flow from property taxes, some districts might be unable to meet their expenses or debt obligations.

Treasurer Peterson states, "We recognize that many families and businesses are struggling to make ends meet during the economic crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic. Some are asking what kind of assistance programs are available if taxpayers need help paying their real or personal property taxes which are due on April 30th. Wahkiakum County will temporarily extend the property tax deadline for residential and commercial taxpayers to May 31st, 2020. This extension does not apply to prior year delinquent taxes. If taxpayers anticipate being unable to make their payment by May 31st, please contact our office. For those who are unable to meet this deadline we will work with you to set up a payment plan."

County offices are closed to the public to reduce the spread of the virus to protect our community and our staff. A drop box is located outside the door of the Superior Court office. Please be sure to put your payment in a sealed envelope marked "Treasurer's Office". You may also make payments on line using your credit card, debit card or e-check at Under the property search tab you will be able to locate your property and the amounts due. If you need help navigating, please give our office a call at 360-795-8005 and we will walk you through the process.
