Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 7 — 7:37 a.m. A caller said that a smoke alarm had been activated at a Rosedale business though no smoke had been seen. Deputies and the District 4 Fire Department responded. 9:29 a.m. A Rosedale resident requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 11:41 a.m. A caller reported seeing 20-40 dead geese, bloody and floating in the Columbia River near Puget Island. State patrol notified the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 12:28 p.m. A caller was concerned about campers having fires in the Beaver Creek area. The Department of Natural Resources sent security, who patrolled the area and was initially unable to locate any campers. At 3:26 p.m., he said that he did not observe or smell any smoke or fire in the area. Seven minutes later, he called back to say that he had found the campers, and they put out their campfire. 12:48 p.m. A caller reported a tree limb had fallen and was crossing both lanes of SR 4 in the Rosburg area. State patrol responded. 2:31 p.m. The power had gone out three times at a Rosburg home and was currently out, a caller said. The Grays River Fire Department responded, and the PUD was notified. 5:15 p.m. A caller said that an individual with whom she had been involved in an earlier domestic disturbance had come to her home and was yelling at her. 5:47 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having a panic attack. 8:14 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 9:21 p.m. Residents in Rosedale reported the smell of smoke. State patrol advised that there was a smell of smoke in the Deep River area as well. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the District 4 Fire Department responded, and it was determined that the smell was not a fire in the area but coming in with the wind. 10:58 p.m. State patrol, conducting a vehicle stop on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area, requested assistance for a protection order violation. A passenger in the vehicle refused to give information.

September 8 — 1:25 a.m. A deputy requested assistance from state patrol during a vehicle stop on SR 4 in the Rosedale area involving a possible drunk driver and open containers. 1:10 p.m. A caller said that he had clipped mirrors with another driver while crossing the Puget Island bridge. 1:24 p.m. A caller reported that junk vehicles were parked on Risk Road. A deputy informed the resident that he had two days to move the vehicles or they would be towed. 4:59 p.m. A caller reported lost keys. 5:43 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious person in a beige SUV removing mail from a mailbox in the Rosedale area. A deputy patrolled the area but was unable to locate the person. A second deputy believed it may have been a mail carrier because a similar vehicle was parked at the post office in Cathlamet. He planned to follow up. 6:10 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 near Nassa Point. The driver was stopped in Rosedale. She said she had been driving for nearly 16 hours, was tired, and heading home. 6:39 p.m. A deputy responded when a caller reported that a vehicle was blocking one lane of the Puget Island bridge. The driver said she had run out of gas and was waiting for someone who was bringing her more. The vehicle was moved at 6:49 p.m. 9:16 p.m. A drug recognition expert from state patrol was requested for a vehicle stop on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. The driver was escorted to the refuge viewing area to wait for a ride. He was cited and released for driving with a suspended license. 10:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 11:54 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was coughing up blood.

September 9 —3:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of stomach pain. 7:34 a.m. A welfare check was requested after a caller received a text and then no response from an individual staying in a sailboat at the marina. The man had fallen into the marina the night before. A deputy responded and found the boat empty. The deputy spoke with someone who had first helped the man after he had fallen into the marina and later helped him get into his vehicle when he said he wanted to go to the clinic. The deputy was unable to locate the subject. 1:01 p.m. The mental health department requested the company of a deputy when they visited an Elochoman Valley home. 4:48 p.m. A caller reported seeing a vehicle headed onto state land in the Beaver Creek area that was currently closed. 9:43 p.m. A caller reported hearing an alarm in the Elochoman Valley area. It turned out to be an alarm at the hatchery.

September 10 — 12:33 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident. 12:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 1 p.m. A sexual assault that happened five years earlier was reported. 9:16 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver headed west on SR 4 from Cowlitz County. State patrol was notified.

September 11 — 5:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having a seizure. 6:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with high blood pressure and chest pain. 8:20 a.m. A caller was concerned about a dog who was yelping and crying after being left in a vehicle on a Puget Island road. The caller said the windows were down, but she was worried about how the current weather conditions might affect the dog. 9:47 a.m. An agency in Scappoose, Ore., requested assistance for manning an emergency evacuation center. Search and Rescue personnel responded. 9:47 a.m. Someone vandalized a bathroom at Vista Park, breaking off the paper towel and soap dispensers and stealing the items contained in them. 12:30 p.m. An employee at a Rosedale business was concerned about a customer who seemed confused. He had purchased six gallons of gas and then only pumped $0.13 worth before leaving. A deputy spoke with the customer’s son, who was en route. 1:25 p.m. A caller reported that two trucks, one pulling a fifth wheel, had stopped in the center lane on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. 1:38 p.m. A caller reported that someone was burning in a burn barrel on East Valley Road. The Cathlamet Fire Department and a deputy responded. 4:53 p.m. An East Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s dog had killed his dog. Both dogs had been destroyed by the time deputies responded. 6:23 p.m. A caller reported that someone had a fire going at Hornstra Beach. A deputy and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded. The fire was extinguished. 11:43 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. State patrol was notified.

September 12 — 4:22 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale home to aid an ailing individual. The District 4 Fire Department provided a lift assist. 7:18 a.m. A West Valley resident reported a power outage. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 11:01 a.m. An East Valley resident reported that a power line was down. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 12:25 p.m. A caller said that an individual who had been evicted from the hotel was trying to move her things into a bar in Cathlamet. 1:23 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a large political sign had been stolen during the night. 1:58 p.m. A rollover accident was reported on SR 4 in the Flandersville area. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. Power was turned off in the area, and a dog was picked up by a member of a local animal group. 4:07 p.m. A man was seen walking into traffic on a Puget Island road near the ferry. A deputy spoke to the individual, who was having a mental health crisis. He was unwilling to speak to a representative from the mental health department. 4:30 p.m. A caller reported finding a stray alpaca along Elochoman Valley Road and took it to her property. The owner was located and claimed the animal. 8:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of chest pain. 9:44 p.m. A Rosedale resident said that a neighbor’s dog, which he described as dangerous, had been barking for two hours, had run down the road, and was now in front of his house. The owner arrived at 10:27 p.m. and secured the dog. 10:37 p.m. A door was found open at the middle school in Cathlamet. A deputy cleared the building and secured the door. 11:15 p.m. A door was found open at the high school in Cathlamet. A deputy cleared the building and secured the door. 11:56 p.m. A door was found open at a Cathlamet restaurant. A deputy responded and found employees there.

September 13 — 9:05 a.m. A vehicle was parked in front of a gate to an area in Rosburg that was closed to entry. The property owner was notified. 9:34 a.m. A caller said a transient was disrupting business at a Cathlamet restaurant. A deputy responded twice. The first time, the individual had ordered something and was chatting with another customer. The second time she was sitting on a couch, crying. She left voluntarily. 1:03 p.m. An East Valley resident reported that his neighbor was burning items in his burn barrel again. The Skamokawa Fire Department and a deputy responded. The fire was extinguished. 1:26 p.m. A caller reported multiple speeding vehicles on Middle Valley Road. 4:40 p.m. A driver was cited for speed and for driving with a suspended license. 5:26 p.m. A caller reported finding a $100 bill and a bag of what appeared to be crystal meth at a Puget Island address. A deputy responded. 5:50 p.m. A caller said that the westbound lane of SR 4 in the Rosburg area was completely blocked by a large bale of hay that was breaking up. State patrol, deputies, and the Grays River Fire Department were notified. The bale was removed from the road. 6:46 p.m. A child accidentally dialed 911. 6:53 p.m. A Puget Island resident found a dead deer with a tag on his beach. State patrol notified WDFW. 9:10 p.m. A caller was concerned about a woman who was laying against the steering wheel of a car parked on Main Street. A deputy responded and said the woman was resting and did not need medical attention. 10:01 p.m. A motorist reported that he had struck a deer in the Rosedale area.

September 14 — 4:22 a.m. An east county resident reported a power outage. The caller later reported that a tree was down just east of Flandersville. The PUD was notified and power was restored at 6:47 a.m.
