Meet our Seniors: Hannah Musick

Hannah Musick wants to be a doctor.
"That's the path," she said with certainty.
She got hooked on the idea of medicine in eighth grade, and her passion for the notion has only grown.
"Now I'm too stubborn to let it go," she said.
Things come pretty easy to Hannah, and so she looks for academic challenges. After earning straight A's her sophomore year, she decided she needed more rigor, and signed up for Running Start, to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associates Degree from Lower Columbia College.
It was just what the future doctor ordered.
"It was actually difficult, and that was a change, but a good change," Hannah said.
But it also meant she was missing her friends, so she volunteered to be a co-manager for the volleyball team last year, taking stats, filling water bottles, and cheering on her school mates.
She was involved in leadership the first two years of high school, acted as a Link Leader her junior year, and has assisted with various activities around the school.
"I'm definitely an introvert," Hannah said. "I think it's so important for me to be with people and be involved. I think leadership truly made me step out of my shell. I become a different person."
All these experiences have brought meaning to this self-aware, purpose driven young woman who moved from Castle Rock to Cathlamet at the age of 12.
"I like it way more than Castle Rock," she said. "I didn't have many friends, I wasn't very involved, but when I moved here, I really connected with people, teachers and things. I've developed a community here."
Her favorite teacher was Eli McElroy, a Wahkiakum alum who taught math at the school for a couple years.
"He made me understand geometry, which is a feat," she laughed. "I had three classes with him. I really enjoyed his presence. He was very young, so I felt like he got along with us very well; he knew what it was like."
Hannah is a big reader, and is currently working on The Catcher in the Rye and The White Album by Joan Didion. She loves classics, and also enjoys a mix of horror, mysteries, and crime novels. She loves nothing better than to read a book on the beach at Vista Park.
Hannah is the daughter of Cori Musick. She plans to attend Central Washington University in the fall.
