Commissioners' Summary

Wahkiakum County commissioners handled several items of business when they met Tuesday, including:

--Commissioners approved changes to the labor contract with the Masters, Mates and Pilots Union to give ferry deckhands and unlicensed personnel a 3 percent cost of living adjustment.

--They put off a decision on a request from Health and Human Services to deactivate a mental health therapist I positon and reactivate a mental health therapist IV position to assist with administrative duties. Even though the position is funded by state contract money, commissioners said they wanted it to be considered by their salary commission which will consider other staff and salary adjustments next week.

--The board amended a contract with Pacific County to allow that county to use the Wahkiakum County Public Works Department engineer for project review while Pacific hires a new engineer.

--The commission received three bids for paving Columbia Street this year from Jacobson Road to SR 4. Bidders were Lakeside Industries, $150,000; Naselle Rock and Asphalt, $152,318, and Granite Construction Co., $179,179. The bid will be awarded at the commission's May 18 meeting.
