August 5, 2021



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 25 — 6:36 p.m. A fire hydrant in Monroe Acres was leaking. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the water was turned off for repairs.

July 26 — 12:05 p.m. The Grays River ambulance provided a lift assist for a Deep River resident. 3:21 p.m. The Grays River ambulance provided a lift assist for a Deep River resident. 5:22 p.m. A driver parked in front of a fire hydrant on Main Street in Cathlamet. 5:38 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 6:05 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded when a medical alarm was activated at a Rosburg home. The owner called to say there was no emergency, and the fire department was notified. 11:20 p.m. A caller reported that two suspicious people had been sitting in a truck across from his Elochoman Valley home and were now wandering the area with flashlights. When he turned on his outside lights, they ran away. A deputy responded and passed the vehicle, which was parked in a lot in the Elochoman Valley. It was gone when he returned. Because he had no probable cause, the deputy decided he had no reason to continue following the car.


July 27 — 12:30 a.m. A deputy checked a possible abandoned vehicle parked along an Elochoman Valley road. The unoccupied van had a broken windshield, three missing side windows, and other damage, and there was glass all around it. The county road department was notified. 2:08 a.m. A deputy responded when a vehicle went into a ditch on SR 4 near Nassa Point. The driver appeared to be okay, and a tow was requested. 6:53 a.m. A caller reported that a truck was in the brush on Beaver Creek Road and a man was walking up the road. A deputy responded, but it looked like the vehicle had been pulled out of the brush. He went to the registered owner’s home, and they did not know where the driver was at that time. 7:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having a seizure and chest pain. 7:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 8:03 a.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to a Rosedale home where someone was having a seizure and chest pain. 9:34 a.m. A deputy responded after a driver struck a deer on Elochoman Valley Road. 2:29 p.m. A Cathlamet bank reported that someone had committed fraud for $4,700. The subject was known for similar activity at other banks. 5:18 p.m. A caller broke a window after backing into a dumpster in a Cathlamet parking lot. 6:24 p.m. A neighbor’s dog killed 10 chickens on July 15, a caller on Puget Island said, and promised to pay for the chickens. Six more chickens were dead and the neighbor had not honored the previous agreement and would not talk to the caller. A deputy responded. The neighbor said his dog was now living in Longview. 7:18 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. State patrol responded but was unable to locate the car.


July 28 — 9:16 a.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the car. 4:42 p.m. A caller reported a van that appeared to be abandoned on an Elochoman Valley road. 8:24 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. The driver was stopped in Rosedale. He refused a preliminary breath test and was not medically cleared to drive. He agreed to have a licensed driver come and get him. 8:33 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 9:56 p.m. A caller reported a party in Brookfield, possible minors in possession. State patrol responded but were unable to locate the group.


July 29 — 4:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual on Puget Island who was having difficulty breathing. 8:52 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about barking dogs. 9:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having a seizure. 12:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who may have had a stroke. 1:08 p.m. A tow truck was called for a van that had been abandoned in the Elochoman Valley area. 2:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for a Cathlamet resident. 11:49 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about dogs barking at a neighboring property. The homeowner was out of town, but he said he would contact his brother.

July 30 — 7:35 a.m. A caller reported an injured deer along Elochoman Valley Road. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. A deputy euthanized the deer. 9:49 a.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services regarding someone in a Puget Island home. 10:01 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby at a Cathlamet home. The deputy waited for 30 minutes, but the individual did not arrive. 12:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported that an awning had fallen off the side of an RV when it crossed the Puget Island bridge and was now lying in the roadway. 2:46 p.m. An individual was struck by a vehicle in a Cathlamet parking lot. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 2:49 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after locking his keys in his vehicle at Skamokawa Vista Park. 5:03 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident was concerned about his neighbor’s dogs which had been barking and yelping for the last 10 minutes. A deputy responded; the dogs appeared to be okay. 7:09 p.m. A caller reported that someone had buried a cat on her lawn, and that an animal had dug it up. A deputy said that someone was called to recover and dispose of the dead animal. 8:39 p.m. A caller reported that several cows were loose and on Steamboat Slough Road. Dispatch contacted the owner. 9:23 p.m. A caller provided information about a break in at a building in Cathlamet. An individual was taken into custody.

July 31 — 1:19 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that a neighbor’s dog had been barking for an hour and a half. 3:38 a.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Puget Island home. A deputy and state patrol responded. 7:11 a.m. A sexual assault was reported. 10:01 a.m. A caller reported that cows were on Steamboat Slough Road. The owner was notified. 2:20 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained that a neighbor’s dogs had barked from 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. 3:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who may have had a stroke. 7:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having a heart issue and breathing problems. 8:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having an allergic reaction after being stung by bees. 9:27 p.m. A deputy asked for assistance when an unlicensed, 15 year old driver was pulled over. The passenger was an adult with a license but was intoxicated. State patrol responded.

August 1 — 8:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having difficulty breathing. 1:41 p.m. A cell phone was found by the recycling bins on Puget Island. The owner was located, and it was returned.
