September 2, 2021



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 23 — 7:06 a.m. Two callers reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a neighbor’s driveway on Greenwood Road. One said that someone was sleeping in the truck with a rifle beside him. A deputy responded and found the vehicle unoccupied. 9:18 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had been parked in a Cathlamet parking lot for over a week. A deputy attempted to contact the owner. 11:49 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported vandalism; someone had put manure on his garage door and left more in the driveway. 12:02 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that someone had dumped trash on his property and stolen some lumber. 12:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a woman at an Elochoman Valley address who had lost consciousness. 1:49 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a family member was threatening to harm himself after they got into an argument. 2:10 p.m. A caller found a vehicle on a property in the Beaver Creek area and reported an accident. There was no one around. A deputy learned that the vehicle was being used as an ATV on private property. It was determined that there was no need for an accident report. 2:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 2:45 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after locking her keys in a vehicle parked in a Cathlamet parking lot. 3:11 p.m. A Grays River resident said that someone visiting her home had stolen some money that she had hidden. 6:29 p.m. A person was injured after being attacked by a dog near Kent’s Bridge in the Elochoman Valley. The dog was known and deemed dangerous. 7:43 p.m. A Puget Island resident said the neighbor was playing his music so loud she could hear it with all her windows and doors closed. She called back a few minutes later to say that the volume had been turned down. 7:51 p.m. A Rosedale resident said he was in possession of someone’s false teeth. 8:03 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that a tractor had been stolen. He said he had video evidence. A deputy responded; it turned out to be a prank gone wrong. 11:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was getting worse following a covid-19 diagnosis. She was in a lot of pain and complaining of dizziness and numbness in her hands and feet.


August 24 — 6:41 a.m. A caller was concerned about a man who was asking customers for money and making strange comments to someone working at a Rosedale business. He had arrived on foot and had been there for about an hour. The caller called again at 7:19 a.m. to say he was headed west on SR 4. At 7:51 a.m., he returned and the caller asked to have him removed from the property. 10:16 a.m. A caller asked for assistance after locking his keys in a vehicle parked on Puget Island. 11:01 a.m. A caller said that her husband had beaten her. An individual was taken into custody. 12:38 p.m. A caller said that a suspicious truck was parked in front of a neighbor’s shop in the Skamokawa area. When he drove by and turned around, the truck took off. 2:03 p.m. The mental health department was notified after dispatch received a call from a despondent Cathlamet resident. 3 p.m. A caller reported that she lost her keys. 4:15 p.m. A Cathlamet resident asked to speak to someone from the mental health department. 11:17 p.m. A caller found a building open on school grounds in Cathlamet. A deputy attempted to contact a responsible person, and a second deputy joined him at the school campus, where they found a few doors open. All the buildings were checked and secured.

August 25 — 9:28 a.m. A caller was concerned about a client who was hallucinating. The mental health department was notified. 9:32 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an east county resident complaining of weakness. 10:42 a.m. A caller said a driver struck a large rock on SR 4 on KM. He believed the car might be totaled. There were no injuries reported. A tow truck arrived at 12:25 p.m. 2:02 p.m. The Skamokawa Fire Department and a deputy responded when a resident on Peterson Road said a lawnmower had caught fire and that the fire was spreading. 2:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had been diagnosed with covid-19 and believed she needed to return to the hospital. 2:40 p.m. A wallet was found at a Rosedale business. 2:43 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained about a neighbor. She was advised to take her complaint to the landlord, that her neighbor’s behavior was not criminal, but she could apply for an order against her. 3:06 p.m. A Grays River resident reported a suspicious person with possible mental health issues. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded. The individual appeared to be dealing with a complication of diabetes. The Grays River ambulance responded. 6:45 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River home to aid an individual with a broken foot. 7:34 p.m. A caller reported four suspicious men in the parking lot of a business in the Alger Creek area. 7:40 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who may have suffered a stroke. 8:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Little Cape Horn resident.


August 26 — 4:17 a.m. Several callers reported that a person was standing in the middle of SR 4 east of Nassa Point. State patrol was notified. 7:14 a.m. State patrol requested aid for the involuntary treatment of an individual found near the passing lanes of SR 4 on the east end of the county. 7:36 a.m. A vehicle struck a deer on SR 4 in the Deep River area. 8:03 a.m. A caller reported that a boat had sunk in the marina. 9:30 a.m. A caller said that her husband was slandering her on Facebook, which she believed was in violation of an order. 10:10 a.m. A Grays River resident reported an online scam. 12:53 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that someone may be stealing her mail. 2:02 p.m. A caller said that the driver of a white Subaru almost ran him off of SR 4 near County Line Park. 6:18 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that two young children were missing. They were dressed in snow gear. Deputies, and volunteers from the Skamokawa Fire Department and the District 4 Fire Department responded. The children were found at 7:34 p.m. 6:59 p.m. A caller reported that a car was partially parked in the driveway of the clinic, and partially blocking Una Ave. There was no one in the vehicle. At 7:14 p.m., the driver, who seemed confused, headed towards Main Street. 10:19 p.m. A caller reported that a deceased deer was blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park.


August 27 — 12:14 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious person in front of a Rosedale business. 9:09 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that someone had cleared a trail through his property and put in posts with blue and pink markings. He was not sure when it had happened. 10 a.m. A Cathlamet resident said she was being harassed by a roommate. 10:27 a.m. A caller said there appeared to be a car chase headed towards the highway following an argument involving four people in the parking lot of a Cathlamet bank. 10:52 a.m. A Rosedale business reported that two loose dogs were repeatedly entering the store. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was notified. 10:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an east county resident who was having trouble moving his limbs. 12:06 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services for a resident in an Alger Creek home. A deputy found no signs of abuse or financial exploitation. 2:17 p.m. A caller reported a deceased fawn on the shoulder of Greenwood Road. 6:19 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 6:34 p.m. A caller reported that goats were loose on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. A possible owner was contacted and en route. A second person believed the goats belonged to another person, who was also contacted. He checked and said they were his and that he was trying to get them home. 7:02 p.m. A caller reported that two Saint Bernards were missing from a home on Risk Road. He called back concerned that a neighbor may have killed them while he was camping. A deputy spoke with the neighbor, who said she did not harm his dogs, adding that the dogs sometimes wandered onto the roadway, and that there were a history of complaints about them. The deputy found no evidence of wrongful activity. 8:15 p.m. A caller reported a loose dock in Birnie Slough. He was concerned it might cause damage to nearby property at high tide. A deputy responded and said he believed that the dock appeared to be well grounded and lodged in place. 11:46 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of his vehicle at Vista Park.


August 28 — 9:22 a.m. A Deep River resident reported that a man walking down the road punched the side mirror on his vehicle, breaking it. The caller said he was armed and threatened to shoot the man if he returned. 11:22 a.m. A caller said that someone who had been staying in a Little Cape Horn home had left drugs and stolen food from the refrigerator. 3:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded when an individual complained about heat related issues at Norse Hall. She refused care. 3:55 p.m. A Rosedale resident said that someone had left belongings in a storage container on his property. He said that he would hold onto it for a few days in case she returned. 5:16 p.m. A caller said that his truck had broken down in the parking lot of a Puget Island church. He said he was trying to get parts and would return to move the vehicle that night or the following morning. 8:23 p.m. A Skamokawa resident was harassed by several people via private messaging following a discussion on Facebook about mask and vaccine mandates. She was told to contact the sheriff’s office if there were ongoing issues. 9:06 p.m. A caller said that she heard that someone was on SR 4 near County Line Park yelling about a hit and run. She said the person was cussing and screaming and several drivers were honking their horns. Deputies responded and spoke to an individual who said he was nearly struck by a car while riding his bicycle. He had minor injuries but didn’t want any aid. He was advised to stay off the roadway. 11:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was unable to move after falling and hurting her back.


August 29 — 2:40 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who was having a hard time breathing. 8:44 a.m. A caller reported that a neighbor’s cows were on SR 4 in the Grays River area. She said they were also in her yard, causing damage. 10:27 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident. A deputy said he had seen the individual. 11:16 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 11:33 a.m. A caller reported that someone may be trespassing on a Deep River property. 1:40 p.m. A caller said that someone exposed himself to her. 2:21 p.m. A deputy and representatives from the mental health department aided an individual at a Puget Island home. 6:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 10:58 p.m. Callers reported that a woman in a vehicle was in a Skamokawa driveway, honking the horn and yelling. One of the callers believed she might be intoxicated. Deputies responded and an individual was taken into custody.
