October 21, 2021



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 10 — 6:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a woman who was having labor pains and was in a car parked in front of a Rosedale business. 8:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who may have had a stroke. LifeFlight was recalled because of weather. 3:12 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 7 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at the ferry landing. Deputies and state patrol responded.

October 11 — 10:34 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident complaining of chest pain. 11:22 a.m. A caller said a tractor and truck were partially blocking South Welcome Slough Road, creating a traffic hazard. A deputy responded and set up cones to increase visibility. 1:36 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a shed was on fire and that he was trying to extinguish it using a garden hose. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 6:18 p.m. A caller, who was parked in a Cathlamet parking lot, requested a jump for his car battery. 6:27 p.m. A caller said a suspicious man had been hanging around near the intersection of Elochoman Valley Road and Beaver Creek Road for about an hour, kicking rocks and talking to himself, following an argument with someone in a red car. The caller believed the man’s vehicle may have broken down. Deputies responded and spoke with the subject, who said his wife had gone to town to call a tow truck. She returned and said that the tow truck was expected around 8 p.m. 7:54 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident.


October 12 — 8:17 a.m. A caller said that someone had scratched his car on Saturday afternoon. 10:25 a.m. The heavy equipment operator at Wauna Mill accidentally hit the emergency button on the phone. 11:39 a.m. A vehicle went into the ditch on Elochoman Valley Road. There were no injuries reported. The driver was cited for wheels off roadway. 3:09 p.m. A caller reported a wounded bear with three cubs off West Valley Road. The matter was referred to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.


October 13 — 12:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 2:34 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the marina parking lot. There were three cats and a generator inside. 3:05 p.m. A caller reported two dogs running up and down Cross Dike Road. She was advised to contact the Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group. 3:49 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 8:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 10:07 p.m. A caller reported an electrical fire at a home on Messinger Hill Drive after a lamp short-circuited. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded.

October 14 — 8:10 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that she had received an email from a customer who said that she had fallen. 12:37 p.m. A caller reported possible child abuse. A deputy determined that the events described by the caller may have taken place in Cowlitz County, and forwarded the investigation to authorities there. 2:09 p.m. A caller reported that two vehicles passed a school bus in a no passing zone. 4:06 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Cathlamet home, alleging that he had been threatened with a kitchen knife. A deputy determined that the report was unfounded. 4:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 4:45 p.m. A caller reported that a car had been left in the parking lot at the marina with cats inside. The caller said they had tried to get water and food to the animals. 8:38 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an individual with mental health issues to the hospital.


October 15 — 5:30 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale home. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 6:57 a.m. A caller at Vista Park requested assistance after getting locked out of his vehicle. 7:35 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having breathing issues. 11:43 a.m. A Skamokawa resident said that a contractor had borrowed his tools and never returned them. A deputy made contact with the individual, who said he had planned to finish the project but had hurt his shoulder. The tools were returned to the owner. 2:08 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 2:28 p.m. A caller found a bicycle in the bushes along SR 4 in the Grays River area. 2:41 p.m. A caller said he bought a home on Puget Island, along with the owner’s tools. He claimed that the owner either sold or gave away half the things he had purchased, and was now ignoring him. He estimated a loss of $5,000. 4:39 p.m. A vehicle was towed from the marina parking lot. 10:18 p.m. A caller reported that shots were being fired non-stop for more than 20 minutes at a property on West Valley Road.

October 16 — 10:35 a.m. Several callers reported that a vehicle was in a ditch along SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. A deputy responded and confirmed that the vehicle was empty. 1:01 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department and the Grays River ambulance responded to a Rosburg home after a caller reported that someone was unconscious and unresponsive. 2:29 p.m. A search warrant was conducted at a home on East Valley Road. 7:41 p.m. A caller said his son had found the magazine, grip, slide, and spring of a gun in a sandwich bag under the seat of a vehicle that had been purchased from a used car dealership in Longview. He said the dealership had purchased the car at an auction, and that prior to that it had been a stolen vehicle. He was not sure how the gun parts had gotten there. Deputies responded. 11:47 p.m. A caller said he had some items stolen from a storage unit.
