Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 17 — 9:07 a.m. The Puget Island Fire Department was notified when an alarm was activated at a Puget Island address. The alarm company canceled the alarm. 9:34 a.m. A Little Cape Horn resident reported that someone was stealing rock from his property. A deputy responded. The subject said he had been told that the rock belonged to the state and that it would be okay if he took some. When he was informed that it belonged to the homeowner, the two made arrangement for payment. 11:10 a.m. A Puget Island resident said a neighbor’s horse was grazing in his yard. The owner was notified. 11:30 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having difficulty breathing. 11:48 a.m. The sheriff’s department was asked to help locate an individual who was wanted for felony harassment. Cowlitz County authorities called back at 1:38 p.m. to say they had found the subject. 3:31 p.m. A gate to a quarry in Skamokawa was found open, and the lock to the back entrance gate had been cut. A deputy responded and secured the site. 7:18 p.m. A caller said two vehicles were parked in the middle of SR 4 in the Alger Creek area after someone hit a deer. 7:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was in a lot of pain. 7:54 p.m. A caller said there were three suspicious people with flashlights under the south side of the Puget Island bridge. A deputy responded and was unable to locate anyone.

October 18 — 11:19 a.m. A caller reported a driver traveling at speeds exceeding 80 mph while heading west on SR 4. A deputy stopped the vehicle and gave the driver a warning. 3:59 p.m. A caller reported that a juvenile who may be having a mental health crisis had run away from home. A deputy was able to locate the individual. He was with a responsible party. The parent was notified. 4:45 p.m. A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle had been parked at a couple different locations in the Rosburg area. 5:47 p.m. A caller reported a hit and run after her vehicle, which had been parked in a Cathlamet parking lot, was struck by a driver backing out of a nearby parking spot. The driver left the scene. A deputy located and stopped the driver, who was arrested after failing a preliminary breath test. 7:50 p.m. A caller reported that the engine of a vehicle parked on Main Street was on fire. The Cathlamet Fire Department and EMS responded. A deputy said there were no flames and the fire department could stand down. 8:45 p.m. A caller heard a disturbance on Main Street and saw a truck drive away from the scene. A deputy spoke with multiple people, including several intoxicated individuals. He found them to be “boisterous,” but determined there was no criminal activity.

October 19 — 11:07 a.m. A caller reported a burglary at a Skamokawa residence. 11:23 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was vomiting blood. 12:14 p.m. A caller reported that a timber company would be conducting their annual burn in the Grays River area. They had all their permits and expected to be done by the end of the following week. 2:53 p.m. A caller reported that a small Chihuahua/dachshund mix was missing and had last been seen near a Rosedale business. 2:59 p.m. A caller in Cathlamet reported that a contractor that had been fired was trespassing on her property. A deputy spoke to the subject and advised him of trespass. The man said he was visiting a tenant. A deputy spoke with the caller a second time, and she said he had not visited a tenant, that he had been loitering in the parking lot. She was advised to call if the person returned. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported that two people were fighting at a Cathlamet apartment. Deputies responded. 4:21 p.m. A Little Cape Horn resident reported a suspicious vehicle on his property.

October 20 — 12:11 a.m. A burglary alarm was activated at a bank in Cathlamet. A deputy responded and found everything secure. The alarm company was notified, and a responsible party was contacted. 12:18 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 7:31 a.m. An employee requested a deputy to accompany her on a walk through of a Cathlamet bank. 9:35 a.m. A Little Cape Horn resident reported that someone was taking his rock. A deputy responded and spoke to the people. They said they had been told it was free rock. 10:44 a.m. A caller reported that a grain ship had stopped in the channel near Buoy 25 for repairs. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified. 1:36 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that someone was trespassing. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the individual. The caller called back to say she had spoken with the subject, who told her he was there to meet someone. The caller said the person the man was there to see did not live there. 2:10 p.m. A caller requested a jump start. A deputy responded. 11:25 p.m. A caller requested a jump start. Deputies responded.

October 21 — 12:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having symptoms of a stroke. 12:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island child with a shoulder injury. 12:39 p.m. A resident on East Valley Road reported that a neighbor’s dog had attacked their dog. 4:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 9:21 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 10:15 p.m. A caller reported a large boulder in the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point.

October 22 — 5:50 a.m. A woman said that she and her boyfriend had not been allowed to return to a Skamokawa home to pick up their belongings after they had been kicked out. 1:33 p.m. A caller said her vehicle was chased by a Saint Bernard while driving on Risk Road. A deputy contacted the dog’s owner. 4:13 p.m. A caller reported that chips and jerky had been stolen from a Rosedale business. The items were returned. A deputy spoke with the store manager, who asked that the subject not return to the store. A deputy spoke to the subject and issued a criminal trespass warning. 8:31 p.m. A caller in Skamokawa reported seeing suspicious people with flashlights walking around nearby. 10:01 p.m. A caller reported an abandoned vehicle at County Line Park.

October 23 — 12:35 a.m. A deputy, the Cathlamet ambulance, the District 4 Fire department, and state patrol responded to a traffic accident on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 12:42 p.m. A caller reported a deer lying in the timberline near Cathlamet. The deer appeared to have a bullet in her hind leg, and had been there for three days. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 1:42 p.m. An individual was taken into custody following a motor accident on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 5:51 p.m. Dispatch received a call from someone who could be heard crying in the background. Deputies responded to what appeared to be a domestic disturbance. 6:57 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 8:16 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 8:32 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a man pulled up in front of his house, got out of his car, and started beating something in front of it. He said the man was now sitting in his car without the lights on. 10:37 p.m. A caller reported that a truck and trailer were blocking a Puget Island road. A deputy responded and was unable to locate the vehicles.10:56 p.m. A Rosburg resident called back to say that the man who had pulled up in front of his house, and gotten out of his car to beat something, had now moved to the other side of the road and was acting strangely. 11 p.m. A deputy responded to the report of a verbal argument on Main Street in Cathlamet.

October 24 — 1:37 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen.
