Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

December 26 — 8:30 a.m. A power outage was reported in the Skamokawa area. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. A second call came from another residence nearby. 10:33 a.m. A power outage was reported at several east county residences. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 10:35 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down on SR 4 just east of Little Cape Horn. State patrol was notified. A second caller reported that another tree was down on SR 4 near County Line Park. 10:36 a.m. Several Elochoman Valley residents reported power outages. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 11:28 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen onto a vehicle that had been parked in an Elochoman Valley parking lot overnight. The caller said that the vehicle appeared to be occupied the night before, but could not tell if there was someone in it now. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. There was no one in the vehicle, and it did not appear to be damaged. 11:33 a.m. An Alger Creek resident reported a power outage. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 11:38 a.m. A caller reported that a tree and power lines were down along Elochoman Valley Road. A second caller reported a power outage and said that trees were down. 12:01 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a power line was down next to the road. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. Two residents nearby also reported power outages. 12:01 p.m. Power outages were reported at two Little Cape Horn residences. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 12:28 p.m. A caller said that a tree was leaning on power lines along Jacobson Road, causing them to sag. The PUD was notified. 12:40 p.m. A caller on East Valley Road reported that a tree was about to fall on power lines. Several nearby residents reported power outages. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. The PUD was notified. 2:10 p.m. A Grays River resident reported a power outage. Two more Grays River residents called to report power outages as well. The Grays River Fire Department responded. The PUD was notified. 2:14 p.m. An east county resident reported that the power had come back on for about a half hour and then went out again. Several more east county residents reported similar issues. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. The PUD was notified. 2:48 p.m. A caller reported a possible accident on SR 4 in the Grays River area. The caller said there was a semi truck and five cars at a corner with their hazard lights on. The caller believed that it was possible that the semi might slide off the road and down an embankment. A deputy, state patrol, and the Grays River Fire Department responded. 5:24 p.m. A caller reported that power lines were down on East Valley Road. A deputy responded and reported that flames were coming from the line. The Skamokawa Fire Department and the PUD responded. 5:27 p.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s office that he and a neighbor would be parking at Erickson Park because they were unable to get down their driveways. 7:52 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that the power was out after a tree took out a power line. The PUD responded at 9:21 p.m .; they were trying to get to the home as quickly as possible because of a medication that required electricity in order to be administered to a resident at the address. A member of the Skamokawa Fire Department said he would go check on the resident until the PUD could arrive. At 10:31 p.m., he reported that no medical response was needed at that time, but there was a tree blocking the driveway with power lines beneath it. 8:08 p.m. A resident on West Sunny Sands reported a possible furnace fire after smelling smoke from the vents. The Puget Island Fire Department and the Skamokawa Fire Department responded. Everyone was told to stand down, but three personnel remained on scene to try to determine the cause of the issue. 8:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Deep River resident who was confused and hallucinating. 9:50 p.m. An off duty state trooper reported that several trees were down and blocking lanes of SR 4 on the east side of the county. The Washington State Department of Transportation was notified. A second caller said a tree was down and blocking both lanes of SR 4 near Vista Park. State Patrol and WSDOT were notified. The PUD cleared a tree blocking both lanes of SR 4 in the Flandersville area. 9:58 p.m. Multiple Elochoman Valley residents reported a power outage. The District 4 Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 10:10 p.m. A resident on Longtain Road reported a power outage. The District 4 Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 10:28 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage after a tree took out a power line. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded, and the PUD was en route.

December 27 — 2:22 a.m. A power outage was reported on Loop Road. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 2:38 a.m. A Grays River resident reported a power outage. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 2:58 a.m. A Grays River resident reported a power outage. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 3:02 a.m. A Grays River resident reported a power outage. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 3:15 a.m. A resident on Middle Valley Road reported a power outage. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 4:13 a.m. A caller said that a tree was down on East Valley Road, blocking both lanes. The county road department responded. 4:42 a.m. A Grays River resident reported a power outage. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the PUD was notified. 5:16 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded. The PUD and the county road department was notified. 7:01 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded. The PUD and the county road department was notified. 7:24 a.m. A caller reported that trees were down and blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. State patrol was notified. 8:31 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded. The PUD and the county road department was notified. 9:09 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a tree was down with power lines tangled in it. The PUD and the county road department were notified. 10:11 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that her husband had been struck by a ram and was on the ground complaining of numbness in his leg. He had a previous back injury. She had covered him with blankets. The Cathlamet ambulance and the Puget Island Fire Department responded. 12:06 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was hanging over the eastbound lane of SR 4 in the Grays River area. State patrol was notified. 1:03 p.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s department that her car was stuck in the parking lot of Erickson Park. She said she was trying to get assistance and didn’t want the vehicle to be considered abandoned. 2:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having coughing fits and reporting low oxygen levels. 2:38 p.m. A caller reported finding a dog on SR 4 west of Cathlamet. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was notified. 2:46 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident hung up after accidentally dialing 911. Deputies responded and reported that all appeared well. 3:29 p.m. An East Valley resident said that she had sought the advice of two veterinarians after a horse choked. One told her to euthanized the animal and the second said to leave the horse overnight without food and water to see if the issue resolved itself. She said the first veterinarian had threatened to report her for animal neglect, so she wanted to alert the sheriff’s office herself. 3:31 p.m. Skamokawa emergency personnel responded after a Skamokawa resident reported a possible broken leg after a fall. The Skamokawa Fire Department, a deputy, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 4:45 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911. Dispatch reported hearing scratching in the background and thought perhaps it was a bad connection. He called back a couple times and eventually spoke to the residents of a Puget Island home. They were okay. 5:01 p.m. A North Welcome Slough Road resident reported that a deer with a possible broken leg was in his yard eating rose bushes. A message was left with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 5:45 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that his power was out and that his meter was dead. The PUD was notified. 6:08 p.m. A panic alarm was activated at a residence on Middle Valley Road. Dispatch called the home, and the person who responded did not know the password but said everything was okay. A second call was made to the responsible party, who verified that everything was okay. 10:33 p.m. Several east county residents reported power outages. The District 4 Fire Department and the PUD responded. Power was restored at 12:50 a.m.

December 28 — 2:13 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking the eastbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. State patrol and WSDOT were notified. 8:49 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a person living in the Grays River area. The caller said they had not spoken in over a month. Deputies spoke to the person and determined he was safe, and a number was provided for the caller. 12:50 p.m. A Cathlamet resident requested assistance after locking keys in his vehicle. He called later to say he found an open hatch and was able to climb through the vehicle to open the door. 2:09 p.m. A caller reported that a small tree was down, blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 on the east end of the county. A deputy responded. 2:38 p.m. A caller reported that a stop sign was down at the intersection of SR 4 and the school access road in Cathlamet. WSDOT was notified. 2:59 p.m. A tree was down and blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. A deputy responded. State patrol and WSDOT were notified. 3:36 p.m. A renter reported that the landlord had turned off water on the property. She did not know what to do about the situation. A deputy said that it was a landlord/tenant issue and no law enforcement action would be taken at that time. 8:21 p.m. A caller was concerned about an unknown vehicle parked at a Grays River home. The owner was not home. A deputy spoke with the person who originally reported the issue. He said that he had seen the headlights of the vehicle and two people with flashlights. State patrol responded and said there was no sign of a vehicle or people at that time. He found deer and tire tracks that appeared to be a couple days old. 11:47 p.m. A caller reported tree limbs in three different spots on SR 4 near County Line Park. A deputy responded and cleared some of the debris but reported a tree that was six to eight inches in diameter was blocking the westbound lane. State patrol and WSDOT were notified.

December 29 — 10:39 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a diabetic Skamokawa resident complaining of abdominal pain. 10:45 a.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. The individual was uninjured and refused transport. 12:39 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver traveling west on SR 4. The caller said the vehicle was parked at a Rosedale business at 12:40 p.m. 1:26 p.m. A caller reported a one vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. A deputy, the Cathalmet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. 2:55 p.m. A caller requested assistance in the Skamokawa area after getting locked out of a running vehicle.

December 30 — 12:19 a.m. A caller said that her husband was attempting to remove a tree that was across SR 4 on the east end of the county. She said he had gotten most of it off of the road but there was a lot of debris left on the road. State patrol and WSDOT were notified. A deputy said that the debris was mostly branches, that the road was passable and mostly clear. 7:51 a.m. A caller asked for assistance at a Greenwood Road address after getting locked out of a running vehicle. 10:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient complaining of chest pain to the hospital. 8:29 p.m. A caller reported that a cow was loose in the Rosburg area. The owner was notified. He said that a tree had broken his electrical fence, so his cows may continue to get out until they could get it fixed. 10:07 p.m. A caller was concerned about his neighbor on Puget Island after seeing a light on in the shop. The caller attempted to call his neighbor, but there was no response. A deputy responded and said that no one appeared to be in the building.

December 31 — 3:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was complaining of chest pain. 8:59 a.m. A caller reported that it looked like her Elochoman Valley office had been ransacked. A deputy responded and spoke to the caller, and they determined that no crime had been committed. 9:13 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in an Elochoman Valley parking lot. 10:59 a.m. A shoplifter was reported at a Cathlamet business. A deputy responded, but when the individual was confronted, he did not have any store property on him. The owner said he had been mistaken and no action was taken. 3:13 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said his vehicle was stuck at the bottom of his driveway, partially in a lane of travel. A deputy responded. The caller said that he had called AAA and was waiting to hear from them. 4:37 p.m. A warrant was served on a Rosedale resident. 5 p.m. A caller reported a damaged power pole along Elochoman Valley Road. The PUD was notified. At 8:43 p.m., the PUD said they were done working on the pole for the night. It would not fall over, and they planned to resume work on it later. 9:25 p.m. A caller reported two abandoned dogs on the ferry heading to Cathlamet. WAAG was notified, and a deputy said the caller was looking for a home for the dogs. 10:55 p.m. A caller said that two vehicles heading west on SR 4 were traveling at speeds estimated to be 100 mph. Deputies and state patrol responded.

January 1 — 12:50 a.m. Skamokawa emergency personnel responded to aid multiple people with possible alcohol poisoning. A possible head injury was also reported. 2:25 a.m. A vehicle was blocking a roadway in the Elochoman Valley Road/SR 4 area. State patrol responded. 9:36 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a deer missing a back leg was in his yard. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. A deputy responded and said that because the animal was protected and still mobile, he would not euthanize it. 10:14 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. A deputy spoke with the individual over the phone and said there was no cause for concern. 11:14 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who said he was in pain. A deputy responded and requested the Cathlamet ambulance. 11:19 a.m. A deceased deer was found in a shed on an Elochoman Valley property. 12:26 p.m. A deputy responded to a Puget Island property after the owner said that a person staying at a campsite until January 1 was refusing to leave. 2:01 p.m. A vehicle went off the road and into the ditch along SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. The vehicle was moved by the high school wrestling team. 3:01 p.m. A caller reported that two people were target practicing at a rock pit in the Cathlamet area. 3:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had partially severed a finger. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 5:09 p.m. A caller reported that a truck was in the water off of Kent’s Bridge in the Elochoman Valley. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet ambulance responded but were unable to locate the vehicle. A deputy learned that the driver had gotten stuck in a ditch by the fishing hole but was able to get out. 6:33 p.m. A caller said that several alarms were going off at a Glengate address, but no one was answering the door. A deputy and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 7:44 p.m. A caller said that an unoccupied vehicle was blocking the northbound lane of Middle Valley Road. 8:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with high blood sugar. 9:53 p.m. An individual living in a trailer on Puget Island said that the property owners shut off the water to her home the day before and now her pipes were frozen. A deputy responded and the person said that the landlord thought there was a leak but couldn’t find one. When she gave 30 days notice, he turned off the water again. She was advised that it was a civil issue. 11:36 p.m. A Deep River resident accidentally dialed 911.

January 2 — 12:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with breathing issues. 1:01 a.m. A caller reported that a house was on fire on Fern Hill Road, or that it may possibly be a chimney fire. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and said there was smoke and a little flame visible from a metal stove pipe, but there was no internal burning at that time. The District 4 Fire Department and the PUD was notified. 1:24 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was weak and wheezing. 12:31 p.m. A caller said there was water over SR 4, blocking the westbound lane in the Deep River area. State patrol was notified. 6:41 p.m. A tree was down and blocking the northbound lane of SR 409. A deputy responded and state patrol was notified. 6:49 p.m. A caller said that her daughter’s ex-husband was posting pictures, her address, and making allegations of abuse on Facebook. She said he was also threatening violence. She said she would also call authorities in Cowlitz County where he lived. She didn’t want law enforcement involved, she only wanted to document his behavior.
