Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 16 — 12:16 p.m. A caller reported a scam after purchasing a product posted on Facebook. 2:37 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident after someone reported receiving an emergency notification alert for the person. The individual was located on Puget Island. She said she was having a problem with her phone and there was no emergency. 4:28 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911 four times. Dispatch was able to connect with the individual and it was determined to be a “pocket dial.” 5:21 p.m. A caller reported that a possible drunk driver had pulled into a Cathlamet parking lot. A deputy responded and a field sobriety test was conducted. A drug recognition expert was requested but could not respond. The driver refused aid, and a licensed driver arrived to assist the individual. 8:27 p.m. A Puget Island resident heard gunfire and people screaming. A deputy responded and found several juveniles riding a motorcycle. They admitted that they had been setting off fireworks. The caller was notified. The deputy said he would continue to patrol the area.

January 17 — 3:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale home after a medical alarm was activated and the alarm company could not make contact with the person. Deputies were requested to gain access to the home. There was no one there. 4:34 a.m. A driver reported that his vehicle was in a ditch on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. He said that no one was hurt and that he would have the vehicle towed in the morning. 8:48 a.m. A Rosedale resident said that money had been stolen from the glovebox in his truck. 12:58 p.m. A person reported a possible stolen trailer at an Elochoman Valley address. 3:34 p.m. Cathlamet Public Works was notified after Washington State Department of Transportation workers struck a water main with a drill. 4:36 p.m. A caller reported a history of abuse, including four years in a Skamokawa home. The individual was advised to contact her local authorities for an initial interview. 5:22 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was unable to stand and had slowed speech. 5:30 p.m. A caller reported a westbound driver on SR 4 who had been speeding, tailgating, and passing in no passing zones. The caller said that the driver had followed him onto Puget Island. A deputy drove to the island but was unable to locate the vehicle. 10:13 p.m. A caller reported that there were two deceased elk blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 in the Deep River area. The caller saw what appeared to be glass in the roadway and wondered if they had been hit.

January 18 — 4:05 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain. 4:13 a.m. A fire alarm was activated at a Puget Island address. It was canceled. 9:43 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 11:28 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported harassment. 11:55 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that someone was trespassing on his property. 12:13 p.m. A caller reported that goats were loose on West Birnie Slough Road. 2:42 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported repeated violations of a restraining order. 4:22 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services for an individual in a Rosedale home. 4:59 p.m. A caller said that a driver had struck a fence along Beaver Creek Road. A deputy was able to locate the vehicle and three subjects were found nearby. One finally agreed to take responsibility for the collision. The property owner was notified and numbers were exchanged.

January 19 — 11:59 a.m. A Rosburg resident complained after his neighbor’s chickens and duck had eaten out of his deer feeder and defecated everywhere. The caller was advised to build a fence and stop feeding wildlife. After a couple attempts, a deputy made contact with the neighbor and advised him to build a fence and stop letting his animals out unsupervised. 1:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a Cathlamet resident who had suffered a stroke to the hospital. 2:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was having a seizure. 5:12 p.m. A caller had concerns about someone who was living in her home. 6:27 p.m. A driver struck two elk on SR 4 in the Grays River area. There were no injuries reported. State patrol was notified. 10:20 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that four men were seen trespassing on his property.

January 20 — 3:43 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle in Skamokawa. 4:50 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services about an individual in a Skamokawa home. A deputy checked on the resident and found that all was well.

January 21 — 2:10 a.m. A caller reported that someone in a silver SUV was checking mailboxes on a Puget Island road. 12:42 p.m. A caller reported that two vehicles were parked on a Rosedale street. 4:07 p.m. A Skamokawa resident said that a family member wanted to stop by his home to pick up her things, but he did not want her there because he was concerned that it would mean he would be violating a protection order. 4:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a home east of Cathlamet to aid an individual with low blood pressure and a low heart rate. 8:03 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after a suspicious man knocked on the door of the Cathlamet business she was cleaning and asked to use a phone. Deputies responded. The man was found sitting in the lobby at the courthouse. A family member was contacted and she agreed to come and get him.

January 22 — 8:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 10:03 a.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 4:49 p.m. A caller reported that the keys and title of a car had been stolen. The caller was advised to speak to a lawyer. 6:13 p.m. An erratic driver was reported to be heading west on SR 4 just east of County Line Park. State patrol was notified. 7:03 p.m. A caller was concerned about a juvenile who was possibly suicidal. He said she likely lived in Longview. He called back later to say she and her father were okay and that they do live in the Longview area.

January 23 — 5:27 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having difficulty breathing. 7:43 a.m. A caller reported a verbal altercation in Skamokawa. Both people had sticks and were threatening each other. A deputy responded and spoke with both parties. No law enforcement action was taken at that time. 11:45 a.m. A motorhome was abandoned at the Deep River PUD substation.
