Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Bruce Moore, 78, affectionately known as Bubba, died on February 10th in Longview. Bruce was born on February 9, 1944 in Tulare California, the only child of LaVerne and Leota (Morris) Moore. He grew up there and graduated from Tulare High in 1962. Bruce joined the US Air Force where he spent four years. He was proud of the work he did as an Aero Medical Specialist helping rescue and save lives in Vietnam. Upon return he attended The College of the Sequoias in Visalia for two years.
On July 4, 1964 he married Patricia Burnett whom he was devoted to and adored for the rest of his life! They had a good life as they followed his work from Southern California Edison Utility to Wahkiakum PUD in Cathlamet in 1977 and later Puget Sound Power and Light, as a lineman. He worked as a consultant for Utilities for several years before retiring in 2014. Bruce loved the water and he and Patty loved sailing, their favorite times were trips to the San Juan Islands. He also enjoyed hunting but his greatest joy was time with his grandchildren. He was a tease with a positive attitude and will be remembered by his family as a bit stubborn. Bruce made friends wherever he went, he never met a stranger.
He leaves behind his wife Patty of 57 years, a son Joel and Pam Moore of Cathlamet, daughter Jodi and Greg Hancock of Portland, five grandchildren, Ashley and Brett Cameron, Joey Moore, Grace Hancock and Blake Anderson and two great grandchildren.
Bruce’s family wish to extend their gratitude to Cortney Anderson who helped Bruce so lovingly through his final days. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW, 80 N Welcome Slough Rd., Cathlamet, WA 98612. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
