There are numerous volunteer opportunities for Wahkiakum County residents looking for something to do or looking for ways to make new friends.

We at The Eagle will curate a list of opportunities and contacts to be printed periodically. If you are looking for volunteers for your organization, please send an email to diana@waheagle.com with some basic information about the organization and what volunteers would be doing, along with contact information.

This week The Eagle heard from the Cathlamet Public Library. If you like books, and are looking for something to do, they are seeking volunteers who are interested in learning how to use the computerized checkout system, as well as helping patrons with printing and using the public library computers. Volunteers would need to commit to a three hour work shift one day a week, and be willing to do a background check. If you like to work with people, The St. James Family Center/The Charlotte House needs volunteers as well. There are several on call positions, as volunteers join staff in answering hotline calls after hours and on weekends to give information and referrals to people looking for shelter from domestic violence. Training is required, beginning with an initial 20 hours, and 20 hours each subsequent year. The organization provides training in person or through online webinars. The Charlotte House also needs volunteers to help with setting up for fundraisers, advertising, and more. For more information, contact Susan Schillios at 360-795-6401.
