Naselle/Grays River Valley School District is proudly sending the Bubbleheads, their high school robotics team, to an international SeaPerch competition in Maryland in June after taking second place in a regional qualifying event in Cathlamet last Friday, and like the team from Wahkiakum High School, they are welcoming donations for the trip.
“At the present time, we are just sending the high school team,” K-12 Principal Justin Laine said. “We are in the early stages of making travel arrangements, determining costs, and securing funds. We had allocated some money from our former Booster Club for this cause, and will use some Highly Capable Program funds to supplement that. We are in the process of determining the total costs and just how much money we have left to raise or generate. Any donations or contributions from community organizations would be most appreciated, as we intend to send the entire high school team.
"Their trip will include some sight-seeing in Washington D.C., the Sea Perch competition on June 4, and racing home early on June 5 so that the five seniors in this group can join their classmates on their senior trip to Sun River. We are committed to funding this trip for these students one way or the other.
"We are so thankful for the hard work of these students and the tremendous support of Nathan Bruce, Ron Wright, and Greg Nelson. We also appreciate Carrie Backman, Wahkiakum-WSU 4-H Extension Office. We are very proud of our middle school team, which worked very hard and performed very well at the competition. We also appreciate the support of their parents.”
