Sheriff's Report, May 5, 2022

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

April 24 — 4:45 p.m. A caller initially reported that a man was in a locked car and unconscious, but a minute later reported that he was awake. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 6:50 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an individual who was acting strangely at a Cathlamet address. A deputy responded and the person said they were okay. 7:49 p.m. A person at a Beaver Creek address was given a drug warning. 10:02 p.m. A caller was concerned about a family member who was upset and possibly suicidal. A deputy contacted the person and referred the person to the mental health department.

April 25 — 5:23 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a head injury from a fall three or four days earlier. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 8:48 a.m. An eagle was found deceased on Puget Island. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 8:57 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 10:14 a.m. A caller asked to talk to a deputy about options for removing a person from their Grays River property. A deputy advised the caller that it was a civil matter. 4:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who was having a seizure at an Elochoman Valley home. State patrol and a deputy responded as well. 7:11 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone had put contaminants in his boat oil, and that his motor had seized. A deputy responded and found no sign of forced entry to the boathouse, boat, or any signs of “malicious manipulation of motors.”


April 26 — 7:28 a.m. A caller reported a dog wandering the school grounds in Cathlamet. 9:25 a.m. Keys were found at Erickson Park. 3:30 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that three squared off beams and a 70 foot fir log that had been tied to the shoreline on his property had been taken. Deputies responded and the logs were found downstream. There was no evidence that they had been cut free or stolen. 10:32 p.m. An individual who was expected to arrive for court ordered jail time for a domestic violence offense did not show up. A warrant was issued for his arrest. A deputy responded to his Elochoman Valley home, but the subject was not there. A person on the premises said the subject “wanted to disappear.”


April 27 — 12:24 p.m. Two vehicles were involved in a side swipe accident on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. No injuries were reported. A deputy responded. 1:26 p.m. A caller said a basketball sized boulder was in the middle of the west bound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 2:24 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 5:01 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle.


April 28 — 9 a.m. A caller said two horses were loose and walking down Elochoman Valley Road. 10:28 a.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 12:04 p.m. A caller reported that someone was in medical distress at a Rosedale home. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy responded. Compressions were started and an automated external defibrillator was used. 2:36 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone had crashed into the column at the end of his drive and destroyed it. 3:52 p.m. The PUD said they had been informed of a low power line in the Elochoman Valley but it turned out to be a phone line. The phone company had been notified and would take care of it the following day. 4:09 p.m. An erratic driver was seen heading west on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 4:19 p.m. A parent said his child was hysterical and he did not know what was wrong. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 4:43 p.m. A caller said that some items that belonged to him were at a Cathlamet shop that was going out of business. He was concerned that he would not be able to get his property back, or if it was sold, get his money. 5:54 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 7:17 p.m. A caller said his boat had been stolen by a relative.


April 29 — 7:10 a.m. A caller reported that a calf was walking in the ditch along SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 10 a.m. A caller said he had paid for a jet ski online and agreed to get it at a later date, but the seller had disappeared from Facebook. The caller wondered if the jet ski was still sitting at an address on Puget Island. A deputy responded and let the caller know that the jet ski was still there. 11:56 a.m. Authorities in Cowlitz County asked the sheriff’s department to arrest an individual at a Puget Island business. 12:24 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Grays River resident who had not been feeling well. 3:26 p.m. A Puget Island resident tested a medical alert device. 5:03 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 6:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was sweating profusely and complaining of shoulder pain. 11:26 p.m. A deputy, state patrol, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded after a vehicle went into a ditch on East Valley Road and someone complained of head pain and tingling. 12:38 p.m. An east county resident reported that a man and two kids were trespassing on his property and taking gravel. 6:32 p.m. A caller said that there were two dirt bikes and a four wheeler racing up and down Middle Valley Road.
