Athletes compete in state meet; Stephens is champ

 

Naselle athlete Trenton Stephens won the state Class 1B long jump competition and medaled in three other events.

Athletes from Wahkiakum and Naselle high schools journeyed to Cheney last week to compete in the state Class 1B and 2B track and field meets.

With 30 teams participating, Naselle placed second in Class 1B boys' competition with 61 points and 29th in girls' competition with two points.

Comet Trenton Stephens placed first in the long jump with a leap of 21-3.25 and second in the triple jump with a distance of 40-10.5 at the state meet.

Two Wahkiakum athletes competed in the State 2B Track and Field meet.

Wayne Harrison placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 144-3. Reigha Niemeyer took eighth place with a distance of 103-1.
