James Sorensen named to Port 1 commission

Wahkiakum County Port 1 wasted little time filling an open commissioner position after Art Hedman decided to resign on June 9, citing a move out of his district.

Cathlamet businessman James Sorensen was the only candidate to respond to the announcement recently posted by Port 1 in The Eagle.

Sorensen attended Washington State University and is an agent for Farmers Insurance with an office on Main Street.

After meeting Commissioners Scott Anderson and Brett Deaton on June 24, Sorensen was given the oath of office by Counsel Tim Hanigan.

“I joined the Chamber of Commerce when I moved here in June of 2020,” Sorensen said. “I started as a board member, I moved up to the executive board, so now I’m the treasurer of the Chamber.”

“I have grown to love this community and plan to stay in this community for the remainder of my career,” Sorensen continued, “and hope to build my family out here, and would just love to see the port as well as the entire community grow along with me and my family.”
