Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 11 — 9:16 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist to a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 11:38 a.m. A caller reported that three people were on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area attempting to move a deer that had been struck by a vehicle. A second caller said there were car parts on the ground and that the deer was now in the ditch. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. A deputy found the deer and reported that it was deceased. 12:27 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle and people who appeared to be cutting metal along Beaver Creek Road. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the vehicle or people. 2:13 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who may have had a stroke. 2:22 p.m. A caller said that a woman who was believed to be transient had been seen around St. James Family Center over the weekend. Water was found running from a hose at “full blast,” and a Christmas stocking and plastic bowl had been left behind. The caller asked deputies to have the person trespassed if she returned. 3:29 p.m. A caller reported that the driver of a white Ford pickup was speeding daily on North Welcome Slough Road.

July 12 — 9:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet address after a medical alarm was activated. They provided a lift assist and the resident refused transport to the hospital. 2:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported hearing three big explosions. He said it sounded like dynamite, that it caused the windows in his house to rattle, and was disturbing pets and livestock. 2:43 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was unable to move after a fall. 3:44 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had dislocated a knee in a fall. 4:33 p.m. A caller reported fraud when her husband, who had passed away in April, received a ticket for fishing with no license. 7:26 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a kayaker had a seizure and fell into the water near Price Island. The woman was able to get to a beach with the help of fellow kayakers, and take her medication. Another kayaker said he was having a hard time breathing and felt like he was going to have a heart attack. The pair signed refusals but were later transported to the hospital.

July 13 — 10:42 a.m. A caller reported an aggressive dog in the Alger Creek area. The caller said that the dog’s owner had previously agreed to keep the dog leashed but this morning the dog charged her and her dog. She said she was able to chase the dog off but could not locate the owner. A deputy spoke with the caller and planned to talk to the owner of the dog. 3:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person sitting in a Cathlamet parking lot who was reported to be in an “altered mental status.” The caller said the person was not clothed from the waist down and had been suffering from diarrhea for several days. 5:38 p.m. Cowlitz County authorities asked the sheriff’s department to assist them in the chase of the driver of a Dodge Ram pulling a covered trailer. The vehicle had headed west on SR before pulling onto Mill Creek Road. He was reported to be doing 91 mph at one point. The driver was eventually stopped on SR 4 at milepost 19 in the Grays River area. A deputy tried to de-escalate the situation but the driver refused to exit the vehicle. Authorities from Pacific County and Cowlitz County were en route and the driver was taken into custody at 7 p.m. A tow was called. A preliminary breath test showed no sign of alcohol, and a blood warrant was started. The subject was taken to the hospital and a puppy was transferred to Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group. They were later able to get the dog to the subject’s mother. 6:26 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading east on SR 4. 7:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a subject at the county jail. 7:59 p.m. A caller reported that there were cars with multiple flat tires on SR 4 in the Grays River area. 10:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident.

July 14 — 9:10 p.m. A driver complained that another motorist would not let her pass on SR 4 between Cathlamet and Longview. Every time she tried to pass, she said, he would speed up. 2:42 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that dogs were becoming a problem in the area. 4:15 p.m. A Rosedale resident needed transport to Hospice in Vancouver. The Cathlamet ambulance was called and then called off when other arrangements were made.

July 15 — 8:42 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident complaining of abdominal pain. 11:29 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Puget Island residence. The security company attempted to contact the owner, but there was no answer. A deputy responded and found a responsible party on scene. 12:43 p.m. An East Valley resident reported a missing dog. WAAG was notified. 12:52 p.m. A caller reported an aggressive dog at a Cathlamet home. The caller said there was no fence and no leash and that the dog charged at anyone walking by. 2:29 p.m. A caller reported that juveniles were jumping off the bridge and into the slough in Skamokawa. 2:36 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said she was being harassed and threatened by an ex-boyfriend. 3:47 p.m. A caller reported that an assault occurred between two co-workers in the Auditor’s Office. 4:10 p.m. A caller from a Rosedale business reported that a man with a ponytail was harassing a store clerk.

July 16 — 12:52 a.m. A medical alarm was activated at a home on Messinger Hill Drive. The resident did not want the Cathlamet ambulance to respond, stating that the alarm device was in the mail. She asked for all phone calls to stop. The Cathlamet ambulance was notified and the alarm company was called. The person at the alarm company confirmed what the resident said and said he would leave a note at the office to have the calls stopped. 7:10 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing resident on Greenwood Road. 8:27 a.m. A caller requested a jump start. 8:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of chest pain. 11:39 a.m. A caller reported a transient living in an abandoned boat on the Elochoman Slough. He said the man had harassed his 12 year-old son. A deputy responded and spoke with both parties. 1:08 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 3:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person at County Line Park complaining of chest pain. 3:52 p.m. A driver was taken into custody following a vehicle stop. 4:15 p.m. The on-site manager of a Rosedale property said she was yelled at after posting a notice from the property owner on an RV. 4:50 p.m. A caller reported that several kids were yelling at vehicles as they drove past on Una Avenue in Cathlamet. 5:01 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle parked in the middle of a Skamokawa road. 7:12 p.m. Deputies responded after an inebriated person pushed an employee when he was denied service at a local establishment. Deputies were unable to locate the man. 8:34 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 8:44 p.m. A caller reported that three people were trying to repair a motorcycle that had broken down on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. They were blocking a turn lane. 9:37 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported on Mill Creek Road. An individual was taken into custody. 10:08 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that loud fireworks were going off. When asked if it was the town’s fireworks, she said she didn’t know. She said if they weren’t over by 10:30 p.m., she would call back. 10:48 p.m. A caller said that someone was operating a crane on Broadway Street in Cathlamet. The owners were present and no law enforcement action was taken.

July 17 — 1:06 a.m. A caller dialed 911 and hung up. Dispatch tried to call back and could hear sounds of a party, but the caller hung up again. Dispatch said it sounded like the caller was ordering from the bar. 6:57 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a resident on Messinger Hill Drive. 11:11 a.m. A caller reported that three cows were loose on Elochoman Valley Road. 12:09 p.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance responded to a motorcycle accident on Covered Bridge Road. 1:43 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trespassing in her storage unit in Rosedale. A deputy told her it was a civil issue. 2:26 p.m. A vehicle struck a deer on SR 4 in the Rosburg area and the caller asked to have it euthanized. The caller called again to say someone who lived nearby said he would euthanize the deer. 4:59 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that two people claiming to be vacuum salesmen came to her home. 8:44 p.m. A caller reported that a juvenile was speeding up and down an Elochoman Valley Road without a helmet.
