Sheriff's Report, September 22, 2022

 

September 22, 2022



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 11 — 9:30 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that she and her neighbors had lost power and that a neighbor had heard a “big boom.” The PUD was notified.

September 12 — 9:02 a.m. A caller reported seeing a suspicious young male open and close a mail box on Puget Island as he drove by. He said the male continued walking down SR 409 toward the ferry. 11:25 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Skamokawa resident who had not been heard from in several days. 1:38 p.m. The sheriff’s department received an Adult Protective Services referral for an individual in a Beaver Creek home. 2:18 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911 and did not answer when dispatch called back. 2:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a student at a Cathlamet school who was coughing and having trouble breathing. 2:44 p.m. A caller said that a newer truck had been left unattended for several days at a property on Elochoman Valley Road. A deputy learned that three people were hunting, and had kept regular contact by satellite phone. They were expected to walk out that night or sometime the next morning. 4:32 p.m. The sheriff’s department received an Adult Protective Services referral for a Puget Island resident. 5:47 p.m. A caller reported that someone had tried to start a fire on Bradley Trails. The caller said he had gotten most of it out, but was concerned it might have gone underground. He asked for a tender to help extinguish it. The Cathlamet Fire Department and a deputy responded. The Department of Natural Resources was notified. 7:14 p.m. A caller reported that someone was lighting fireworks in Glengate. 7:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy aided an ailing person at the Hotel Cathlamet. 9:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had been suffering a migraine for three weeks and said that it had gotten worse. 9:52 p.m. The mental health department and a deputy responded when a Rosedale resident said she was feeling unstable and depressed.

September 13 — 11:42 a.m. A West Valley resident said he chased bow hunters off his property. He believed they were the same people who had been told to stay off his property in the past. 12:47 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that her husband had passed away that morning and people who did not have permission to be on their property were trespassing and trying to change the locks on all the buildings. 1:48 p.m. A caller reported a missing person. A deputy learned the person was moving away and was okay. 3:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 5:27 p.m. A caller said that several horses in the Skamokawa area appeared neglected, that one appeared to have an abscess in its mouth, and that another person had seen skeletal remains in a creek on the property. A deputy responded, but the property owner would not allow him full access of the area. He did not see any signs of malnutrition or teeth issues. 7:02 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that his neighbor had created a make-shift target in his back yard and had been shooting. He asked to speak to a deputy.

September 14 — 7:21 a.m. A Middle Valley resident reported that two horses in harnesses were eating apples from his apple tree in his yard. He called back later to say that the horses had moved to the intersection of Middle Valley and East Valley roads. 10:10 a.m. A Deep River resident reported an ongoing problem with punctured tires. 2:41 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked in her driveway.

September 15 — 4:09 p.m. A caller reported that a cow and a pony were on Elochoman Valley Road. 4:13 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a deceased deer on his property. He was given the number for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 6:08 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services for a resident in a Grays River home. 8:39 p.m. A caller reported four suspicious people walking around an Elochoman Valley neighbor’s new shop with flashlights. 8:52 p.m. A caller reported that a truck was off the road and partially blocking the eastbound lane of SR 4 about a mile west of County Line Park. The driver said he had drifted off but was okay. Another person stopped and reported that the driver wasn’t injured but he thought the truck was totaled. State patrol was notified and a tow was called.

September 16 — 7:37 a.m. A caller said a water truck was blocking Morgan Drive and parked in a blind corner. 7:47 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an ailing Rosedale resident to the hospital. 3:18 p.m. A log truck and a car were involved in an accident on SR 4 near Elochoman Valley Road. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. 7:50 p.m. A man was seen dumping a truckload of garbage at the end of West Valley Road. The caller said the man was obviously intoxicated and that a machete and hatchet had fallen out of the truck. Deputies responded. One reported that they were following a trail of alcoholic containers going over the hill. Two hunters confirmed that the man was still in the area and that he was dumping trash. When deputies caught up with the man, he was intoxicated and said he had a faulty tailgate which caused trash to fall out. He agreed to have a sober driver take him to pick up the trash. He was given a warning for a burn ban violation and his fire was put out. 8:49 p.m. A caller in the Rosburg area said he was hearing voices and needed to go to the hospital. When dispatch called back, the individual said he did not mean to call and when asked a question, hung up again. A family member was contacted and dispatch learned the caller had left and was walking to a church in Deep River. Deputies, the Grays River Fire Department, and the Grays River ambulance responded, and the individual was transported to the hospital. 10:31 p.m. A man was seen sleeping in a white Lexus near the driveway of a Grays River home. The caller just wanted to know if he was okay, and said if he just needed a place to sleep, it was okay. A deputy responded and found the driver sleeping.

September 17 — 12:20 a.m. A concerned caller requested a welfare check for a Puget Island resident. The resident was contacted; she said she was okay. 7:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of stomach pains and chills. 10:35 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 3:38 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a sick person at County Line Park. 4:09 p.m. An alarm was activated at an east county home. The home owner called and said she set the alarm off accidentally. 7:27 p.m. An abandoned vehicle was found on a logging road off Beaver Creek. 8:26 p.m. A caller reported a westbound vehicle on SR 4 with no tail lights.

September 18 — 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Middle Valley resident who was having trouble breathing. 2:27 p.m. A West Valley resident reported an unknown vehicle parked on her property. She believed it may belong to hunters who were trespassing on her property. WDFW responded. 4:26 p.m. A caller reported that three motorcyclists were headed east on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area traveling at speeds over 100 mph. A deputy responded and reported that the motorcycles were not stopping. He was advised to stand down and state patrol and Cowlitz County authorities were notified. 6:08 p.m. A caller reported two cars parked along the side of the road west of Grays River. A woman in one car appeared to be having a panic attack. The Grays River ambulance and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. The woman was complaining of numbness in arms and legs. Family arrived and transport to the hospital was refused. 9:09 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he was being harassed.
