November 17, 2022



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

November 6 — 9:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy responded to an Elochoman Valley home. Lifeflight was put on standby. The coroner arrived on scene at 10:18 p.m.

November 7 — 12:23 a.m. A boulder three to four feet in diameter was found in the westbound lane of SR 4 just east of County Line Park. Authorities in Cowlitz County and state patrol were notified. 2:59 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of back pain. 8:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen and was unable to get up. 8:49 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. A deputy responded. 8:51 a.m. A caller said a protection order may have been violated. A deputy spoke with both parties. 2:12 pm. Another agency asked a deputy to check on a Puget Island resident who was a victim of fraud. 3:44 p.m. A caller reported that the occupant of an older light colored pickup was attempting to flag down traffic on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 4:49 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a resident on West Valley Road. A deputy responded and determined the person was okay.


November 8 — 1:22 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of pain. There were possible signs of a stroke. 8:14 a.m. A caller requested assistance after locking his keys in his car. 9:23 a.m. A caller reported that an abandoned boat capsized in the Deep River area. He said there was no oil sheen or debris. 11:24 a.m. An Alger Creek resident said she had video of a man on her property. She said the video showed him rattling the door to a shed and checking out a fifth wheel. It turned out to be a neighbor who said he was checking on the property after people were seen setting off fireworks nearby. 2:40 p.m. Two young men in a truck were reported to be traveling at high speeds on Eden Valley Road. 2:58 p.m. A caller said that items donated for a veterans dinner were missing along with three large cardboard pictures. 4:35 p.m. A caller reported that a man with an excavator was on his property on East Valley Road. He asked for law enforcement. 5:13 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 5:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a child with a head injury. 8:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who fell and was on the ground all day.

November 9 — 10:01 a.m. An East Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs visited his property the night before and attacked one of his cats, which was later taken to the veterinarian. The caller also said that the dogs tried to intimidate him when he chased them away. 11:08 a.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about the size of his neighbor’s burn. A deputy responded and said the fire was appropriately attended. 2:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with low blood sugar.


November 10 — 8:09 a.m. A caller reported a cow on Elochoman Valley Road. 9:44 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who fell. 5:47 p.m. A caller reported a disturbance in Rosedale after hearing people yelling and cussing at each other. 11:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of abdominal pain.


November 11 — 12:25 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 3:05 p.m. A caller reported losing a phone at a Grays River restaurant.

November 12 — 11:37 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone struck a fence during the night, causing damage and leaving car parts behind. 11:39 a.m. An East Valley resident reported a trespasser with heavy equipment digging in his field. A deputy responded and the trespasser was told to move his machine. 1:08 p.m. A caller said he was contacted by someone who found his backpack full of hunting gear on the side of SR 4. The person would be bringing it to the sheriff’s office and the caller asked to be notified when it arrived. 1:35 p.m. A caller said checks were stolen from his vehicle the day before and he was just informed that someone tried to cash some. 5:25 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that someone was parked at the end of her driveway. She said that the vehicle was occupied and the driver kept turning the hazard lights on and off. 7:23 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on Little Island. 7:38 p.m. A caller reported a large burn at a Puget Island address and vehicles pealing out of the driveway and on the road. 9:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man complaining of chest pain at the brewery. He lost consciousness multiple times. 11:45 p.m. A man was seen walking in the Elochoman Valley area. He was wearing camouflage and carrying a rifle.

November 13 — 12:05 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported seeing flashing green, red, and white lights hovering in the sky. 8:51 a.m. A caller was concerned about embers glowing on the corner of a property near a clear cut on Beaver Creek Road. He said the land was dug out around it. 11:54 a.m. A woman stopped by the sheriff’s office to say she was going to Canada and wanted to leave contact information in case her family decided they would like to get a hold of her. 12:13 p.m. An audible fire alarm was activated at a Puget Island address. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 6:56 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 7:45 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident complaining of leg pain. 8:18 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Glengate resident.
