Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 16 — 12:05 a.m. Two deputies stopped an individual seen standing in the middle of the westbound lane of SR 4 near Jacobson Road. He said a person known to him picked him up from Cowlitz County jail and left him in Skamokawa after threatening him and stealing his backpack containing a laptop and other items. A butterfly knife and drug paraphernalia were found on the man and he was transported to Longview after providing a written statement. Deputies searched the Skamokawa area for the other subject. 6:19 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a nose bleed and high blood pressure. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 10:26 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a water outage. The Town of Cathlamet Public Works department was notified. 12:31 p.m. A caller found a back window broken on his truck while it was parked at Bradley Trails. He said a tool box and duffle bag were taken and it appeared that someone tried to take the cargo trailer. 2:32 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 2:34 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who fell. The person refused transport to the hospital. 2:48 p.m. A caller reported that a neighbor was speaking with people who recently pulled down tape blocking a fishing parking lot in the Elochoman Valley. The people left in a black hatchback, the caller said, heading toward the highway. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 9:03 p.m. A driver stopped on Puget Island turned out to be involved in an incident earlier that day. He provided a written statement for a deputy.

January 17 — 6:20 a.m. A caller reported a speeding logging truck on a Deep River road. 9:32 a.m. A caller said that the carcass of a cow or an elk was dumped at the end of Kandoll Road. WDFW was notified. 9:47 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident complaining of abdominal pain. 11:59 a.m. A caller reported possible elder abuse and theft at a Skamokawa home. 12:07 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 1:17 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that a neighbor’s dogs were on his property, chasing and attacking his livestock. 2:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who may have suffered a stroke. 5:21 p.m. Deputies were asked to help locate a person who had not been taking his medications and was drinking and hypomanic. He was found at 8:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded but the individual refused transport at the hospital and said he did not have any need for a mental health response. He was released into family custody.

January 18 — 5:03 a.m. The ferry was shut down for a mechanical issue. It was back in operation by 7:46 a.m. 6:12 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about a neighbor’s dogs barking every morning. 8:08 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident with a high temperature and abnormal blood pressure. 9:36 a.m. A Deep River resident reported ongoing issues with a neighbor, including threats and cameras pointed at her home. She was advised to apply for a protection order. 11:20 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a protection order had been violated. 12:01 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Deep River resident. 3:55 p.m. A caller reported that tools and other items were taken from a shed on a Deep River property and that gas was syphoned, possibly two weeks earlier. 10:59 p.m. Skamokawa emergency personnel aided a Skamokawa resident who was complaining of pain from a fall four days earlier.

January 19 — 1:42 a.m. A suspicious vehicle was parked in front of a Rosedale business. 9:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a resident on Greenwood Road who was having difficulty breathing. 1:08 p.m. A caller reported that people were trespassing on a property on West Sunny Sands Road. 5:43 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after striking an elk on Beaver Creek Road. The elk was still alive but it’s legs were broken. 5:52 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported seeing signal flares on a hillside. 6:37 p.m. The Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Department received a referral from Adult Protective Services about someone in the county. 9:50 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle backing out of the abandoned hatchery on Elochoman Valley Road. The caller said that people and vehicles were seen there lately.

January 20 — 5:14 a.m. An alarm was activated at a business west of Cathlamet. A deputy responded and found the building secure. 8:02 a.m. A water outage was reported at a Rosedale address. Public works was notified. 9:42 a.m. An East Valley resident said that neighbors were arguing with him and a surveyor. 9:44 a.m. An alarm was activated at a business west of Cathlamet. 10:20 a.m. A large boulder was reported in the westbound lane of SR 4 near the county line. The Washington State Department of Transportation was notified. 1:34 p.m. A caller said she received a package from a person who had stalked and threatened her before she moved to the county. She said there had not been any contact for several months but it appeared the individual had discovered her new address. A deputy advised the woman to notify authorities in her previous town and to apply for a protection order. 11:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who may have suffered a stroke. A deputy, the Cathlamet Fire Department, and LifeFlight responded.

January 21 — 9:06 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. A deputy was able to make contact with the person. 1:18 p.m. A power outage was reported on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. The PUD responded and restored power at 4:40 p.m. 3:31 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 6:53 p.m. A caller reported that he had almost been hit head on by an erratic driver on a Puget Island road. 9:46 p.m. A power outage was reported at the KM tower. A deputy responded. 9:50 p.m. A driver said a westbound vehicle drove into the eastbound lane and almost crashed near County Line Park.

January 22 — 5:46 a.m. A caller reported multiple dogs barking all night in a building at an Elochoman Valley address. He said it was an ongoing problem. 11:25 a.m. A South Welcome Slough resident reported a dead deer in his back yard. WDFW was notified. 12:16 p.m. A caller said he was almost hit head on by a black truck heading west on Columbia Street in Cathlamet. The vehicle was seen heading towards the Island. 5:09 p.m. A person at an East Valley Road address was arrested on a district court warrant. 11:58 p.m. A person was found in the new brewery building in Cathlamet and detained while a deputy attempted to contact the owner. He was let go when he shared messages on his phone regarding work there.
