The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team got back on track this week with two wins, bringing their record to 6-6 and fifth place in the Central 2B league.

They got things started with a nail biter on Thursday, beating Kalama 56-54 in overtime.

"The Kalama game was a fun game for all the girls to show just how far they've come," Coach Rob Garrett said. "There were definitely a few individuals who stood out statistically speaking, but more importantly, as a team we played calm and collected down the stretch making great decisions to give ourselves the opportunity to win the game at the free throw line and that's exactly what we did. Multiple girls hit clutch free throws to secure the game."

Reigha Niemeyer scored 27 points. Miya Kerstetter had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Bailey McKinley added eight points and 15 rebounds. Jessie LeFever had two points and six rebounds. Amirah Abdul-Kariem finished the game with two points.

Bailey McKinley hauls down a rebound for the Mules.

"We did some good things in the Winlock game," Garrett said. "Defensively we had some individuals take a step in the right direction which should help us moving forward. It turned out to be a little closer game than we wanted, but again our girls managed to stay calm and make good decisions as the game closed out. Bailey McKinley had a standout game on both sides of the ball and really started to come out of her shell and attack the hoop with confidence. It was a fun team win for sure."

Niemeyer scored 23 points, and had eight rebounds and six steals. McKinley added 14 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Kerstetter had seven points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Abdul-Kariem scored four points and LeFever had three.
