Sheriff's Report, March 9, 2023

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 26 — 10:37 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor’s barking dog and said another neighbor’s roosters crowed all the time.

February 27 — 12:29 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident complaining of high blood pressure.

February 28 — 12:57 a.m. Power outages were reported on the east side of the county. The PUD responded and power was restored at 2:09 a.m. 12:09 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services for a Rosedale resident. 3:54 p.m. A caller reported that a group of people were dumping trash and looking into a vehicle parked on Steamboat Slough Road. The caller added that he had spoken to the owner of the vehicle. She was walking her dog and said she did not know the people checking out her truck. A deputy responded. 3:59 p.m. A caller reported suspicious people at a Cathlamet residence. 4:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of pain. 5:05 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a woman with facial injuries in Skamokawa. A deputy responded. The woman said they were injuries from an earlier fall and that stitches had been removed that day. A relative confirmed her story. 5:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen and was unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. 6:06 p.m. A Cathlamet resident asked for assistance after getting locked out of her house. A deputy responded and was able to gain entrance.


March 1 — 6:18 a.m. A caller said there was solid ice on SR 4 near the summit of KM. State patrol notified the Washington State Department of Transportation. 10:23 a.m. A caller reported a speeding westbound logging truck on SR 4. 12:43 p.m. A caller said he heard five to seven shots fired near the day use area at County Line Park. A deputy and state patrol responded. A deputy spoke to people at the beach who said a person in a pick up truck fired five to eight rounds into the river and then left. 2:28 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services for a West Valley resident. 3:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a West valley resident who fell. 4:28 p.m. A caller reported that the driver of a truck pulling a trailer on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area was unable to maintain the lane. 4:28 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on SR 4 east of Cathlamet. 7:49 p.m. An employee at a Rosedale business asked for assistance after getting locked out of a stock room. She was advised to call the store manager.


March 2 — 7:59 a.m. People picking salal got stuck in the snow in the Elochoman Valley area. 8:43 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Deep River resident. 2:34 p.m. The Cathalmet ambulance aided a man at the Cathlamet market who was unable to move. 6:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet child who had fallen and hurt his ribs. 10:10 p.m. A burglar alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley address. A deputy found everything secure and spoke to the new homeowner who accidentally activated the alarm. 10:20 p.m. a caller reported a young child walking south on SR 409.


March 3 — 7:38 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about a neighbor’s barking dogs. A deputy drove by and did not hear anything. 9:41 a.m. A caller reported that a child was sexually assaulted in July. 12:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was ailing and unable to get up. 3:57 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident who was talking about suicide. A deputy responded and a mental health professional was notified. 4:25 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had a seizure. 9:40 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911. Dispatch attempted to make contact. Deputies responded. 10:29 p.m. A resident in a Cathlamet apartment reported a power outage. The PUD was notified.


March 4 — 3:32 p.m. An erratic westbound driver was reported on SR 4. A deputy and state patrol were notified. The driver was stopped at 3:39 p.m. 3:47 p.m. A wallet was found.

March 5 — 8:20 a.m. A slide was reported on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. The county road department was notified. 8:45 a.m. A caller said a friend was being harassed by a former boyfriend.
