Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 20 — 10:41 a.m. An individual was arrested at an Elochoman Valley home after a caller reported that a youth was being abused and exposed to meth and heroin. 4:03 p.m. A medical alert was activated at a Cathlamet address. The resident said she accidentally dropped the device and did not need medical attention. 6:26 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a man driving a utility truck for a broadband company was coercive in his attempts to gain access to her home, telling her it was to upgrade her internet. She declined and asked him to return the following day. She called the internet company and a representative told her they did not have any record of a technician in the area or any work orders for her property. Deputies responded. 7:09 p.m. A caller said a dog sounded distressed and had been barking for a long time at a nearby Elochoman Valley address. 8:16 p.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about a spouse’s mental health. Deputies responded. 8:30 p.m. A Greenwood Road resident reported that his ex-wife was at his property around midnight with someone. He said they were talking about his compost toilet and tried to enter his vehicle. 9:15 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale business. Callers witnessed someone going in and out of a vehicle nearby. A deputy spoke with the owners; they said they were trying to fix a malfunction. 10:15 p.m. A caller who was trying to figure out her new phone accidentally dialed 911.

March 21 — 2:27 a.m. Emergency personnel in Skamokawa aided an East Valley resident who was having difficulty breathing. 4:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of abdominal pain. 5:47 a.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 1:06 p.m. A caller said a deer was injured after being struck by a vehicle on SR 4 near Skamokawa. Fawns were wandering nearby. A deputy responded and euthanized the injured doe. 1:48 p.m. A caller said a large tree was being cut down on Puget Island and that it was going to fall across the road. He was concerned that there was no police presence or traffic control. 1:52 p.m. A caller saw a loaded truck go up a logging road and return with the bed emptied. He was concerned that the driver was dumping illegally. It turned out that a landowner was building a road. 4:13 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 5:51 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911.

March 22 — 6:42 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was repeatedly losing his balance and having trouble breathing. 11:14 a.m. A sailboat along Price Island was inspected by a deputy. 12:14 p.m. A boat in the Skamokawa Channel was inspected by deputies. 12:36 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious man loitering outside a Rosedale business. 1:05 p.m. A caller found a dog in the Elochoman Valley area. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was notified. 3:50 p.m. A caller said he saw someone on his security cameras entering his shop at his east county home. A deputy and state patrol responded. It was determined to be a camera issue; the person entering the shop was the owner, earlier in the day. 5:31 p.m. A caller reported a deceased deer on the side of a Puget Island road. 6:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with a dislocated hip. 7:22 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Alger Creek resident who had fallen. 11:10 p.m. A caller reported that a man was trespassing on an East Valley property. The man had been given permission to stay in a tent for one night only, but would not leave. A deputy spoke with both parties and the man agreed to leave the property the following day.

March 23 — 10:26 a.m. A caller reported oil drops on Columbia Street. 12:15 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a report of the possible abuse or neglect of a child. 2:07 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a stolen laptop.

March 24 — 9:36 a.m. A caller reported debris on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. State patrol was notified. 12:06 p.m. A caller said a truck was stopped in the middle of the Puget Island bridge with flashers on. 2:25 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a trespasser stole some items from his shop. 7:50 p.m. A caller was concerned about employees who left earlier in the day to go for a drive, possibly on some logging roads. She called back later to say she’d heard from one of them and they were safe. 9:50 p.m. A caller saw someone lying on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. Deputies responded and found an individual in the road with a twisted ankle. The Cathlamet ambulance was called. The individual refused transport to the hospital.

March 25 — 11:01 a.m. A caller reported a civil dispute involving speed bumps on a Deep River road. 11:07 a.m. A burglary was reported at a Rosburg home. 6:05 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 7:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having trouble breathing. 11:31 p.m. An inmate in the county jail may have violated a restraining order.

March 26 — 8:53 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a power outage. The PUD was advised. 9:07 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle was in an Elochoman Valley ditch and that a power pole was broken and leaning over the roadway. The PUD was notified. 2:05 p.m. An individual in Rosedale was arrested. 4 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 4:40 p.m. A Grays River resident said her husband had threatened to leave and take the kids while she was out of town. 5:09 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 after he ran someone off the road, was unable to maintain the lane or speed. A deputy responded and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence and an ignition interlock violation. 6:19 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said someone broke into his barn during the night and removed something before leaving it in the road nearby. He added that he had seen a couple pushing a cart in the Skamokawa area. Deputies responded.
