Candidates began filing for some local offices early this week.

Kandice Merz filed on Tuesday to challenge Patty Anderson for her seat on the Wahkiakum School District Board of Directors, while Chris Gartski filed for the position being vacated by Paula Culbertson.

Robert Stowe proved he was on board for another term as a council member for the Town of Cathlamet.

Michael Severson filed for the town council position currently held by appointee Joe Baker and Tom Merz filed for the Commissioner 2 position at Fire District 1, currently held by Ron Kimmel. Jeff Waters has filed for the Commissioner 2 position at Fire District 2 currently held by Oliver van den Berghe.

Candidates may file in person at the county auditor’s office or online via the Wahkiakum County Election page at https://www.co.wahkiakum.wa.us/419/Elections.

The filing period for the 2023 general election started this week and ends Friday (tomorrow) at 4 p.m.
