June 14 celebration in Cathlamet

 

There was a flurry of activity in Cathlamet June 14, as the town celebrated Flag Day, Julia Butler Hansen's birthday, and honored the Cathlamet Woman's Club Citizen of the Year, Diane Hollebeck, with the annual planting of a rose.

Westend resident Diane Hollenbeck is the Cathlamet Woman's Club Citizen of the Year. She was honored on Wednesday with a planting of a yellow rose in the garden of Julia Butler Hansen's historic home. Afterwards, visitors enjoyed a tour of the JBH home.

John C. Hughes, Washington State Chief Historian, shared stories about Cathlamet's most famous citizen, former U.S. Congresswoman Julia Butler Hansen. He stayed after to sign copies of his book, Julia Butler Hansen: A trailblazing Washington politician.
