Summer robotics at the library

Robo Rascals 4-H Club will host Summer Robotics at the Cathlamet Public Library. They want to offer a chance for kids not in their club to learn and play with robots. The month of July, they will meet on Fridays at the library with the first two sessions geared towards grades K-3 and the last two sessions meant for 4th and 5th graders. Each age bracket uses a different kit according to their age level.

Last Friday the kids built a wheeled robot that pulled a skid. Then they ran several tests by simulating a tractor pull. A different amount of weight was added to the skid and then the robot pulled it. Our fancy weight happened to be the different sized screwdrivers from our toolbox. They tested with different wheels: slicks, skinny traction, and wide traction. They tested with different axle styles: wobbly and straight. The floor was marked up with tape noting how far the robot pulled each time.

There are still a few open spots in each of the upcoming sessions, if your child is interested in joining us. To sign up please email Robo Rascals leader Jessica Vik at jessica.vik@wsu.edu.
