Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

August 26 5:18 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Skamokawa resident experiencing chest pains. 7:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a possible stroke victim to the hospital in Longview. 9:12 p.m. A Skamokawa homeowner reported people trespassing and entering a trailer on their property. Deputies responded and found that the property was secure. 2:05 p.m. A caller reported people camping at the end of Steamboat Slough Road. Deputies spoke with the people who were fishing legally and not planning on spending the night. 3:15 p.m. A key fob with three keys was found on the north side of SR4 at milepost 37.

August 27 8:04 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident was transported to the hospital after experiencing abdominal pain. 6:12 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported a person who was having difficulty walking. 6:46 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner reported that their neighbor was cutting down trees on their property. After looking on the county website it was determined that the trees were not on the callers property.

August 28 1:06 p.m. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group (WAAG) picked up a loose dog in the Messenger Hill area. WAAG notified the Sherriff’s department that they had the pit bull with a black spot on its face in their custody. 6:10 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle speeding on Puget Island.

August 29 3:07 a.m. A vehicle in the Elochoman valley reportedly swerved to miss a deer and ended upside down in the ditch. 11:42 a.m. A Elochoman valley homeowner reported that their chicken had been killed by a neighbors dog. The caller did not want law enforcement action, only to have the incident documented. Deputies spoke with the neighbor who said that the dog is usually kept in a fenced enclosure.

August 30 9:14 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone had used their fire pit and left some items behind. Deputies responded and seized brass knuckles. The homeowner called back to let dispatch know that it had been relatives who had used the fire pit. 9:21 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Puget Island resident who had fallen the day before and was having mobility issues. 7:54 p.m. A motorist called the sheriff’s office to get help finding a home in the beaver creek area. The motorists phone dropped the call but they called back later to say they were not lost anymore.

August 31 4:52 a.m. A Cathlamet caller reported that their neighbor had been playing loud music all night. Dispatch informed the caller that there is no noise ordinance in Cathlamet. 10:39 a.m. a welfare check was requested on a Puget Island resident. The Cathlamet ambulance responded and transported the person to the hospital. 11:57 a.m. A caller reported a gill net in the Cathlamet channel. The caller said that the net had already been reported to the Coast Guard and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 6:24 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported people riding four wheelers on the road. 7:10 p.m. A Skamokawa caller reported seeing smoke and fire from their house. The Skamokawa fire department responded. The Department of Natural Resources was notified. 8:27 p.m. A motorist called dispatch to report that their car had broken down and they had pushed the car into a parking lot in Cathlamet. They said that they would return to deal with the car tomorrow. 10:05 p.m. A person reported losing a wallet somewhere in Cathlamet the night before. 11:58 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported hearing gunshots fired. Deputies patrolled the area but did not hear any gunshots.

September 1 8:41 a.m. A welfare check was requested of a Cathlamet resident. Deputies spoke with the individual and reported that the person was well. 9:48 A debris fire was reported at a Puget Island business. The Cathlamet fire department responded and the fire was extinguished.
