CLOUDY. Well, we've had some cooler weather

this past weekend as it was dry in some places

and misty in some places. We had some light

rain fall in some places and really dumped a

few times too so it really depended on where you

were and the time you were there as to what it

was doing. We were pretty thankful for the rain

though as it helps with fire danger and keeps

those with springs flowing better. It makes one

less chore to complete as we don't have to water our lawns. It appears that we have a mixed

bag of weather coming to us this week, with one

day being a real soaker but the rest will be on

the cloudy side with only one day being really

sunny. Of course, these forecasts can change on

a dime so we will just have to wait and see. For

the most part it appears that we won't have to

worry about getting sunburned as the highest

reading I see is 73. Perfect!

SPECIAL DAYS. Those celebrating birthdays this

coming week from Sept. 19 thru 25 are: Tracy

Carroll, Shona Heywood, Same Longtain, Monte Longtain, George Bates, Brett Havens, Leah

Clark, Michael Zurick, Justin Stewart, Jessica

Stewart, Damiaen Deaton, Michael Danker,

Ty Nielsen, Theresa Jacobson, Bruce Holland,

Elisa Anderson, David L, Vik, Ole Vik, Tammy

Johnson, Shelby Robinson, Art Hedman, Karla Kyle, Lori Kyle, Isabella Macchione, Larri

Palmer and Atlas Palmer. Those celebrating an

anniversary this week are: Mr. and Mrs. Dan

Keilwitz, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Sittauer, Jeff and

Danette Traver, Mr. and Mrs. John Burdick

and Kevin and Jessca Palmer. May all of your

birthday and anniversary celebrations be full of

fun and laughter.

GREAT PARTY. Speaking of birthdays and birthday parties, the Skamokawa Grange Hall was

the perfect place to hold a triple birthday party for Ken Peterson and his twin sister, Karen

along with their niece, Bridget this past Saturday. All the guests were treated to a tasty salmon dinner as well as pulled pork sandwiches

and plenty of side dishes, drinks, and snacks to

boot. Of course there was a huge cake and with

two flavors to choose from. It was a win-win.

We were delighted to attend and we wish all the

birthday "kids" many more and maybe they will

celebrate down here in Skamokawa next year

as well. Happy days to all!

BUSY LAST WEEKEND. There were so many

things going on last weekend that one just

couldn't be everywhere at one time. Most were

picking and choosing what they could manage

to attend. For those who worked or volunteered

at various positions it meant narrowing things

down even further. At any rate, I do hope you

were able to get out and enjoy the flea market

or the music at the Pioneer Center or maybe

some Bingo at the Norse Hall, or the WAAGs'

fifth birthday/anniversary party. As well as the

music at the "O", taking in private birthday

parties and attending sports events. There were

plenty of those happening in our area.

FRIDAY STREET MARKET. I see where we are

down to just two street markets left this season

down at the Elochoman Slough Marina so we

hope you'll be able to stop by and check out the

vendors down there before they end their season on Sept. 27. Let's hope the weather will be

decent as well as it's no fun to deal with wind

and rain. Hours are 3:30-6:30 p.m.

THE USUAL. Yes indeed, we still have our regular/weekly events happening, like the Community Breakfast that takes place at the Skamokawa Grange Hall at 18 Fairgrounds Road from

10-noon each Thursday. On Wednesdays over in

the basement of Our Saviors Lutheran Church

on Puget Island along SR 409 they have a Senior Friendship Group that meets there from

noon-3 p.m. They have various activities there

but you can also just come for coffee and gab a

bit as well. Both of these events help those who

may not belong to other clubs. You get to meet

some new folks in our area and get to know one

another. Sometimes moving into a new area is

tough and one gets a bit lonely and this is a way

to get out and about and meet others.

BOOK SALE SOON. Once again, the Cathlamet

Library will be holding their annual book sale

so here's your chance to get some new reading

material at bargain prices so circle these dates

on your calendar: Oct. 11 from 2-5 p.m. and Oct.

12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Now this sale will not

be at the library itself but right next door in

the downstairs level of the Pioneer Center so

it's easily accessible. You are also encouraged to

go to the library, get your library card and enjoy

all that they have to offer.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. It seems the Mules are

having a tough start to their season but we hope

things pick up for them as they take on Ilwaco

this Friday night in Ilwaco. Their next home

game is against Oakville next Friday, Sept. 27

at 7 p.m. The JV team will play on Monday,

Sept. 23 in Napavine and then at home on Sept.

30 against Mossyrock. Games start at 6 p.m.

GREAT HISTORY. A big shout out to Janine Klint

Davidson for posting so many pictures and

newspaper articles of things on Facebook that

happened in our area "way back when" and that

many of us who have lived here for years, were

totally unaware of, as they took place before

we were born. I especially like the news about

Puget Island as the early days were certainly

unlike the days when I grew up there. It’s all

so very interesting. A creamery, cheese factory,

mink farms and more were all there at one time,

so a big difference from today that's for sure! .

If you're on Facebook and want to check out her

posts, she's got a site called "Wahkiakum EastSide History, People and Memories." It's great!

MUSEUM. For more history about our community come down to 65 River Street in Cathlamet

to our Wahkiakum County Museum and check

out all the artifacts, pictures and news articles.

There is a lot of information that has been put

together by curator Kari Kandoll who we appreciate so much and we hope you'll come and check

it out. The museum is open on Saturday and

Sunday from 1-4 p.m. The volunteer hosts and

hostesses will be happy to show you around.

GETTING VERY CLOSE. By the end of this "Eagle week" which is Thursday the 19th through

Wednesday the 25th, the old calendar is telling me that there are only three months until

Christmas. Now that seems close but what's

even closer is the time you need to have all cards

and packages in the mail so they will arrive on

time. They recommend mailing packages the

first few days of December. Now I don't mean to

pick on the post office but when it takes a package that was sent priority (extra moola) to Seattle and it still takes a week to get there, well,

I guess you know with the holidays coming you

definitely don't want to delay in getting those

important holiday packages mailed plenty early

as the "kids" would not be happy. Not only that

but groups around our area are going to be doing special things for the holiday like those who

are decorating and filling and putting together

those "Shoeboxes of Joy-Wahkiakum.” So any

all gifts/supplies for those events will need to be

purchased way before the big day arrives so they

can be passed out prior to Christmas. At any

rate I think we can all agree time is just sailing

by and it's so much easier and less stressful to

get some things done early as we know just how

busy we are during the holidays. Yep it's just

about the constant cleaning, decorating, cooking, baking, shopping, wrapping and crazy time

of the year folks. Rest up while you can!
