Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

October 28 10:34 a.m. A Cathlamet homeowner complained that their neighbor’s dog was barking at their dogs through a fence. 12:43 p.m. Deputies assisted a motorist who was locked out of their vehicle in Skamokawa. 1:49 p.m. An erratic driver was reported on SR4 in Cathlamet.

October 29 12:00 p.m. A suspicious person was reported at a gas station in Cathlamet. The person had gas cans and was attempting to get a ride. 4:08 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly person who had fallen. 7:39 p.m. A power outage was reported on Puget Island. The Puget Island fire department responded to a blown transformer.

October 30 8:33 a.m. A caller reported several bags of trash were dumped on the side of the road west of Naselle. 8:41 a.m. A caller reported that a person was throwing trash into the creek on Main Street in Cathlamet. 12:28 p.m. A single vehicle accident was reported east of Abe Creek on SR4. The District 4 fire department responded. 3:33 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Westend resident with a parasite in their leg. 4:16 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle parked at a Cathlamet business was smoking. The person called again to say that they had talked to the owner of the vehicle who was aware of the problem.

October 31 10:10 a.m. An Elochoman valley caller reported someone parked in their neighbor’s driveway. 2:21 p.m. A vehicle was reported to have gone off the road and down an embankment on the Julia Butler Hansen Wildlife Refuge. 2:45 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an Elochoman Valley resident with high blood pressure. 4:15 p.m. A motorist on Puget Island reported hitting a deer. 4:58 p.m. A vehicle was reported blocking the eastbound lane of SR4 near County Line Park. Deputies assisted the motorist who was out of gas. 5:10 p.m. A caller reported a scam phone call from a person claiming to be a Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s investigator. Dispatch confirmed that this was a known scam and gave the caller the number of the Federal Trade Commission.

November 1 11:57 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a possible stroke victim after a Westend resident experienced speech and mobility problems. 9:35 a.m. A Deep River resident called to report a pack of dogs roaming around in their neighborhood. 5:35 p.m. A large boat was reported adrift in Deep River floating towards Waranka Road. 6:32 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies and the Puget Island Fire Department responded to a Puget Island resident who required transportation to the hospital. 12:39 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance assisted a Cathlamet resident who was experiencing breathing problems.

November 2 1:23 a.m. An erratic driver was reported west of Cathlamet. 8:22 a.m. A tree was reported down blocking both lanes of Altoona Pillar Rock Road. 10:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly Cathlamet resident experiencing chest pains. 11:24 a.m. Emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident who had side effects from high blood pressure. 11:27 a.m. Two deer carcasses with antlers removed were found in the Bradley Trails area. The Department of Wildlife was notified. 2:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a elderly Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 5:13 p.m. A dog was reported running loose on Elochoman Valley Road. The caller said that they had the dog and would be contacting the Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group (WAAG). 9:55 p.m. An elderly Skamokawa resident requested assistance after experiencing a possible stroke. 11:55 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island resident who had fallen.

November 3 9:20 a.m. An injured elk was reported in the Elochoman Valley. 3:28 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle parked the wrong direction on Main Street in Cathlamet. 3:43 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that they had two stray dogs at their residence. The person called back to report that the dogs had been returned to their owner. 3:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly person who had fallen and injured their hip.
