No. 25-47

The Wastewater Treatment Plant is seeking a motivated individual to assist with laboratory and document writing needs. This unpaid volunteer position offers an opportunity to earn community service hours, gain volunteer experience, and explore the science behind wastewater treatment. Ideal candidates should possess computer and typing skills of at least 40 words per minute and have an interest in water or science.

Responsibilities will include revising and typing lab requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, and quality control lists. Many documents are already drafted but require updates such as name and address revisions or format conversions. While some tasks can be completed remotely using a tablet or laptop provided by the WWTP, certain responsibilities will require on-site work at the plant. Beyond clerical duties, this role offers hands-on learning opportunities as the individual will shadow plant operators. Participants will gain exposure to industry terminology, software applications, and microscope analysis.

This short-term, temporary role provides valuable insight into wastewater treatment operations. The expected duration of the project varies depending on the number of volunteers. If one person participates, the timeline is estimated at three to six weeks, with a minimum commitment of three weeks. If two individuals join, the timeline adjusts to two to four weeks, requiring at least two weeks of commitment from each person. Should more than two people express interest, there will be an introductory meeting at the plant to help candidates make an informed decision.

This position is open until filled.
