SUPER NICE. Well, if you like the sunshine, the last couple of days of the previous week were likely your favorite as the sun was shining, the temperatures were nice and warm, and it was a great time to mow that lawn and wash your car! It was also a good time to go out and about and enjoy the warmer temperatures with your friends on the beach or have a BBQ! This week, we have a mixed bag with some rain possible on a couple of days, cloudy but dry weather for a few days, and some in-and-out sunshine for a couple more. It looks like there's something for everybody. Here's hoping you get to go out and enjoy it.

CHANGE OF DATE. I mentioned that there was going to be a Spring Bazaar held at the Vista Park Annex building (old Methodist Church and now Skamokawa Vista Park office), and it would be happening in May. Due to a conflict of dates, this event will now be held on June 7. If you'd like to show off your paintings, drawings, crafts, or other artwork, this is an excellent opportunity to rent a 10x10 indoor space for just $10. Being inside guarantess that no matter the weather, you and your customers will be comfortable. Contact the park office to reserve your space by calling 360-795-8605 or emailing terina@wahport2.org and get signed up today! This is a great spot to set up, as you can have lots of foot traffic from those staying at the park and lots of available parking in the area as well.
ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY. If you have more time, you can also sign up for the Elochoman Marina Street Market, which is held in Cathlamet down at the marina. They hold this event every Friday from May 23 to September 26 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. You can set up your craft items, veggies, fruits, baked goods, or anything you want to sell. If you're interested, call: 360-849-9411 or Mackenziej@cathlametmarina.org or online: http://www.cathlametmarina.org
SYMPATHIES. I recently heard from Bev (Danielson) England from Meridian, Idaho, and she told me of the recent passing of her sister, Delores, who would have been 98 in July. She passed away on Tuesday evening, April 15, of natural causes, and besides Bev and her family, is survived by her only living son, Ken, who lives in California. She was raised on Puget Island, but Delores had lived in Vancouver for many years. Delores just happened to have been the last living member of the WHS Class of 1945. We want to send our deepest condolences to Bev and her entire family and Delores's son, Ken.
CONGRATULATIONS. I understand that we have a couple of local gals who were recently engaged, so I want to shout out to Becca Keilwitz for her engagement with Jared Richardson and also to Arwynn Haney and Kobe Brown. Congrats, ladies!
WAAG. The group of volunteers that work in our area with the pets that are sick, abandoned, or abused could use some extra hands. They've ve had a tough time lately dealing with all of these animals, and well, it takes its toll on people. If you could volunteer to help them, that would be great. If you can't volunteer, maybe you'd be willing to donate to help with the costs of helping these animals like vet bills, food, etc. and you could do that by sending a check to WAAG at P. O. Box 231, Cathlamet, WA, 98612. This is truly a labor of love, and these folks could use some help! Also, if you can buy some extra pet food to donate, it can be dropped off at the Jabber Shack at 65 Main Street in Cathlamet.
COMING UP. Many events are coming up this month, here are a few reminders: The museum in Cathlamet is opening this weekend, so we hope you'll stop by either Saturday or Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. This is a great place to check out pictures, look through the files for things you are most interested in, and see all the changes that have occurred over the years. You'll likely find something surprising, especially if you've never gone through these "years of change." On May 9, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Tsuga Gallery will be the place to be as the GFWC Cathlamet Women's Club will have their annual Pie sale that day. It is $15 for a whole pie, and hand pies and mini pies will be sold for donations. I can tell you this: these pies go fast, so don't delay. Get down there early that Friday afternoon if you can. The fairgrounds in Skamokawa will have their monthly Flea Market/ T-building sale on May 10, so come between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and check that all out. It's a new month for the Redmen Hall, and they are starting things off with a Spring Tea on May 3, so if you have made reservations for that, don't forget that it's this Saturday. The hall is open from Noon to 4 p.m. on the weekends, and they have a great gift and book shop for you to check out. In the evening of May 10, you might want to check out the Bingo games at the Norse Hall on Puget Island, as those are always fun. The doors are open at 5:30 p.m., and the games begin at 6 p.m., with the cards costing 5 dollars each and are good for the evening. Here's to you winning one of those nice cash prizes! Now, May 11 is Mother's Day, and I do hope you're planning something special for Mom that day or the remarkable woman in your life. Our local restaurant will have dinner specials, so we hope you'll support them. One of the really fun events down here at the fairgrounds is the Wahkiakum County Fairs' Cruzin' to the Fair Car Show, which is now in its sixth year, and will be taking place on May 31. If you pre-register by May 23, it's cheaper, so contact either Diane Dyer at 360-465-2825 or Patty Dursteler at 360-795-3480 and leave a message, or you can visit their website, wahkiakumfair.org
PLAN AHEAD FOR B.E.D. One of the biggest events around here is Bald Eagle Days, which is held in mid-July. This year's dates are July 18 and 19, with the big parade happening on July 19. I want to remind all vendors interested in participating in this event that vendor registration is now open. Be sure to contact the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce on either their website or by calling 360-795-9996 to get on their list right away. A 10x10 spot on Main Street in Cathlamet costs $50 for a non-Chamber member and just $35 for Chamber members. This year's theme is "Rooted and Rising", as we are rooted in tradition and are rising to tomorrow. As you can see, there's a lot to do around here. Enjoy!
