Baker, Jensen, Palm, and Gorley take first at meets

Clatskanie High School's track and field team took part in two meets last week and came home with plenty of top-five finishes. First, the team traveled to Gervais Thursday, April 24, for the Gervais Home Meet. For the boys, Daylon Gutierrez took third place in the 200M with a time of 24.01. Aidan Bailey took second in the 800M with a time of 2:09.82, while Zach Swinford took fifth in the 1500M with a time of 5:09.77. Ryder Gorley was one of Thursday's first-place finishers last Thursday with a time of 46.49 in the 300M Hurdles, and Quin May took third in the same event with a time of 50.60.

In team competition for the boys, the quartet of Ayden Blackshire, Gutierrez, Bailey, and Gorley took first in the 4X100 Relay with a time of 45.90. While Bailey, Gorley, Gutierrez and May took first in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 3:42.93. In the field for the boys, Tristan Bocanegra took fourth in the Sot Put 12lb with a distance of 35 feet, 1 inch and second place in the Discus 1.6kg with a distance of 105 feet, 5 inches. May took second place in the Pole Vault with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches, while Gorley took fourth in the same event with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches.

In track competition for the girls, Mya Jensen took second place in the 100M with a time of 14.01, while Paytan Ward took fifth in the same event with a time of 14.45. Jensen also took third place in the 200M with a time of 29.62, while Rainey Palm took fourth in the same event with a time of 30.30. Kiera Caceres took fifth in the 400M with a time of 1:13.98, while Natalie Baker and Mai Lowe took second and fourth respectively in the 800M with times of 2:46.51 and 2:57.64. Baker had a first-place finish in the 1500M with a time of 5:37.32, and Lowe and Angelica Todd took third and fourth place respectively in the 300M Hurdles with times of 14:28.78 and 16:29.49. In team competition for the girls, the quartet of Maria Altafina, Grace Hadley, Ward, and Caceres took third in the 4X100 Relay with a time of 57.96, and the foursome of Baker, Caceres, Jensen, and Ward took first place in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 4:45.39.

In field competition for the girls, Elle Tompkins took second place in the Shot Put 4kg with a distance of 27 feet, 6.5 inches, while Caselyn Thompson took fifth in the same event with a distance of 24 feet, .75 inches. Jensen had a first-place finish in the Discus 1kg with a distance of 90 feet, 5 inches, while Tompkins and Alainah Perkins had third and fourth place finishes respectively in the same event with distances of 79 feet, 8 inches and 78 feet. Julianna Erickson took fourth in the Javelin 600g with a distance of 84 feet, 2 inches, while Tompkins took fifth in the same event with a distance of 76 feet, 9 inches. Palm had a first-place finish in the Pole Vault with a height of 8 feet, while Erickson took third in the same event with a height of 6 feet, 6 inches. Rounding out the field for the girls, Ward took fifth in the Long Jump with a distance of 12 feet, 9 inches.

The following day, the team traveled to Chinook Stadium for the Kalama Twilight Invitational. For the boys, Bailey took fifth in the 400M with a time of 54.38. In the field, Braydon Top took fourth in the High Jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches, and May took fourth in the Pole Vault with a height of 10 feet, 6 inches. For the girls, Baker took fifth in the 200M with a time of 27.77 and fourth in the 400M with a time of 1:03.90. Rounding out the competition, Jensen took fourth in the Discus 1kg with a distance of 91 feet, 7 inches.

The team competed Tuesday, April 29, at the 2A SD1 League Meet at Knappa, but the results weren't available at the time of press. The team's next meet is the Panther Twilight Friday, May 2, at Washougal High School's Fishback Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
