Commissioners report

The Wahkiakum County Commissioners met on Tuesday, June 3, for their regular meeting. During Public Comments, Jason Will expressed his displeasure that someone had written “WAAG donation” on an envelope he left with change in it as a donation to the County Treasury. The Commissioners again stated that they would not accept the donation, as it would cost the county more money than the donation is worth. Will then angrily scribbled off the “WAAG donation” from the envelope in front of the commissioners. “I don’t want to see somebody write on that again,” said Will. “We are not responsible for that.” Commissioner Gene Strong responded, referring to the envelope of change. Dan Turner from the Cathlamet Library announced that thanks to the efforts of Librarian Vicki Franklin, residents, starting next week, may pick up a free pass at the library for the Maritime Museum in Astoria simply by showing their Cathlamet Library card.

Dave Hicks, Building Inspector/Planner, presented the commissioners with a proposal for two short plat applications for townhouses recently completed on Sunny Field Road. The two houses will be divided into four separate condominiums, each used to address a diverse housing need. County Engineer Paul Lacey requested approval to schedule a public hearing for Tuesday, June 24, at 9 a.m. regarding the changing of a portion of Steamboat Slough Road to White Tail Road. County Engineering Technician Ben McClain requested approval for a new resolution to vacate the last 0.23 miles of Greenwood Road, as there is no benefit to the county in maintaining the road as it is, and residents living there have also requested that the county vacate the road.
