Sheriff's Report

June 2 7:56 a.m. A caller at Greenwood Cemetery reported that someone was removing flowers from graves without permission and disposing of them. The caller stated that this had been an ongoing issue and requested that it be documented. 1:08 p.m. A caller on Columbia Street reported that a vehicle was driving erratically and performing lane changes. 6 p.m. A concerned caller on SR4 reported an individual was on the side of the road flagging drivers down and appeared to be yelling “help.” The caller said the person was walking towards the Dollar General on SR4. 6:58 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies performed a welfare check on a Puget Island resident after receiving a call from a concerned family member who had not heard from them in over a month. The individual was located and seemed to be in good health.

June 3 3:05 a.m. A driver on Steamboat Slough Road in Skamokawa Valley lost control of their vehicle while coming around a curve. The driver refused medical attention but requested help getting their vehicle out of the ditch; a tow truck was called, and deputies assisted the driver in returning to the roadway. 10:48 a.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report that a person known to them stole two checks and cashed one for $500. The caller believes the same person also tried to break into their residence recently and wants to trespass them from their property. 12:41 p.m. A Rosburg resident called to report an abandoned motorhome on the county right-of-way on SR 4. 3:53 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies served an arrest warrant on Steamboat Slough Road. 4:07 p.m. A Deep River resident called to report missing equipment from a neighboring shop that they believe is the product of an ongoing issue with squatters. 6:55 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted a driver on Main Street with a vehicle unlock. 7:58 p.m. A concerned citizen called to report two backpacks that were sitting outside of a Cathlamet business.

June 4 6:22 a.m. A Cathlamet resident was transported to the hospital by Emergency Services after waking up with confusion and a bloody nose. 10:32 a.m. A Cathlamet resident near Rosedale called to report what they believed to be an illegal burn. 3:37 p.m. A Skamokawa resident called to report finding an old concealed pistol license on the ground near their mail, belonging to a Cowlitz County resident. The owner of the CPL was contacted and gave permission for it to be shredded since it had expired. 7:22 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies received several complaints about an abandoned vehicle in Skamokawa on SR4 that allegedly contains drug paraphernalia and belongings. 8:49 p.m. A driver on SR4 in Deep River called to report hitting a deer near Miller Point Road and is uninjured.

June 5 7:49 a.m. An elderly Puget Island resident was taken by LifeFlight with a possible broken shoulder after falling. 10:14 a.m. The Cathlamet Ambulance transported a Cathlamet resident who was having heart troubles and vomiting to the hospital. 11:54 a.m. Cathlamet Emergency Services helped an elderly Cathlamet Resident who needed a lift assist. 4:47 p.m. Residents near E Birnie Slough Road were reporting discolored water; the fire department had been flushing the fire hydrants and would be for the next couple of days. 4:50 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies performed a welfare check after a caller said they could not get ahold of their friend who was working on an excavator at the old Weyerhauser camp on Fossil Creek Road. Deputies made contact with the individual, who appeared to be in good health. 5:40 p.m. A driver on SR4 called to report an erratic vehicle that was blowing black smoke and driving at a high rate of speed on SR4 near Cathlamet School Road. 6:46 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident called to report hearing several gunshots nearby. 10 p.m. A Puget Island resident was transported to the hospital for severe chest pain and breathing difficulties.

June 6 7:27 a.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report that a headstone had been smashed at the Greenwood Cemetery. 7:28 a.m. A driver on Elochoman Valley Road called to report that they hit a deer and it was in the ditch. 4:24 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident called to report an injured deer in their driveway and the caller was referred to WDFW for further guidance. 8:08 p.m. A caller on SR4 reported an erratic vehicle going northbound was driving like they were intoxicated and kept swerving towards oncoming traffic. 9:35 p.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report a suspicious person who arrived on a scooter had knocked on their door and was taking pictures of the scenery, claimed to be a pest control company, and was offering services. The resident found the late hour at which the person was there suspicious. 11:50 p.m. A concerned citizen called to report that a teenager was sitting on a bench on River Street, stating it was “odd for this time of night.”

June 7 8:48 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies made an arrest in Grays River. 1:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a suspicious salesperson riding around on a Segway headed east from their residence. The caller claims the seller was in the area for a prolonged period of time and is worried that they are casing the neighborhood. 1:31 p.m. LifeFlight took an elderly Puget Island resident to the hospital for chest pains. 2:12 p.m. A caller on SR4 reported two motorcycles that were driving erratically at a high rate of speed and passing unsafely going westbound near Nassa Point. 5:27 p.m. The Coast Guard was notified when a swimmer was seen struggling near the Puget Island boat ramp; the caller stated that a kayaker helped the swimmer to shore. 6:30 p.m. A Puget Island resident called to report that a pest control salesperson came to their home. The caller stated that when they asked for more information, the salesperson became vague and then irate, leaving and heading west. The resident is concerned that the person is scamming. Deputies made contact with the sales individual, who was able to substantiate claims and seemed legitimate. 7:28 p.m. A driver on SR4 reported metal debris was all over the road and a vehicle ahead lost their trailer east of Elochoman Valley Road.

June 8 5:16 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle crash in Grays River on SR4 where one person was injured and transferred to the hospital. 12:04 p.m. A caller on SR4 near Riverview reported a vehicle driving erratically and swerving into oncoming traffic lanes. 12:12 p.m. An elderly Skamokawa resident was transported to the hospital for a possible stroke.
