Strong Family Dentistry has taken up residence in the former dental office of Dr. Evans, a long-standing service provider for Rainier who recently retired. Strong Family Dentistry in Rainier is the latest business move by owner, Brad Strong, DDS, who took over the Rainier location on West B. Street in March of this year.
Prior to purchasing the Rainier location, Strong operated two locations in Clatskanie and Longview. "Dr. Evans was getting ready to retire and I was tired of having two offices and this is right in the middle between Longview and Clatskanie," Strong said. "I consolidated everything about her office and who we are and I brought the patients with me. I was only renting those locations, so now [there's] no more moving and running around."
Strong grew up in a small town in Utah and credits a childhood influence for pursuing a career in dentistry. "My neighbor was a dentist. I liked the lifestyle that he lived and he was a really nice guy - very active in the church - and I thought it would be a great job." He received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and then went to Ohio State for dental school, graduating in 2006.
"I went to Colorado right out of school and worked for another dentist for a few years then I went back to Salt Lake and had my own practice there for 10 years," Strong said. "My wife has family near Portland and my brother-in-law, who's also a dentist, said, 'Hey, you should move to Oregon. It's a great place to be a dentist,' so I sold my practice in Utah and we moved to Gresham in 2019." Strong, his wife, and their four kids currently call Vancouver, Wash. their home.
Strong Family Dentistry accepts most types of insurance and said they have affordable options for patients without and they aim to offer a variety of procedures. Services offered include: standard cleanings, exams and x-rays, root canals, dental implants, extractions, crowns, composite bonding, veneers, and teeth whitening.
"When you're in a small town, you have to be able to do all the procedures and so we try to make sure we can take care of everybody in any way possible," said Strong. "We don't want to have to send anyone to Vancouver or Hillsboro. We want to try to take care of it right here." Strong's office also offers pediatric dentistry services and are accepting new patients. "We have a nice friendly staff, new owner, very experienced and It's clean," said Strong. "We're bringing more days, so more availability. We're just here to help you."
They plan to implement "Dental Days," an initiative conducted at Strong's prior locations. This event is one day a year where the staff volunteers time to treat people who have no resources to pay for services. Examples they have given in the past include, but is not limited to, teeth extractions and cavity fillings. No advance sign-up would be available and the event would be first come, first serve. "We just came in and everyone volunteered their time and we just helped as many people as we could," Strong said. "We tried to do it last year around Thanksgiving to give back and we'll probably set up something like that this year."
