44th Annual Bald Eagle Days Festival arrives this weekend

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is happy to present the 44th Annual Bald Eagle Days Festival happening this Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19 in Cathlamet.

Festivities kick off on Friday at 11 a.m. with the 18th Annual Armstrong Memorial Sidewalk Chalk Contest at Strong Park. At 6 p.m., enjoy a fun lineup of entertainment at the Pioneer Center Variety Show or travel back over to Strong Park for the Photography Contest Showcase.

Wake up early Saturday morning to participate in the annual Terry Bonny Fun Run 5k. This is a run/walk event appropriate for all ages.Registration starts at 6:15 a.m. at Elochoman Marina. All proceeds benefit the Wahkiakum Track and Field program.

A community parade will take place on Saturday at noon. Leading the parade as Grand Marshal this year will be Ora Lorraine Bauer. We honor her remarkable contributions to Wahkiakum County. Her selfless service to this community has enriched lives and connected generations of families who proudly call Wahkiakum County home. A lifelong Wahkiakum resident, Ora is the granddaughter of Walter Coates, the founder of the original ferry route between Cathlamet, Puget Island, and Westport, Ore. The ferry service recently celebrated its 100th year of operations last month.

Following Ora Lorraine will be a march of local organizations and businesses, volunteer groups, first responders, youth athletes, and more.

Saturday will be filled with fun and games with hourly magic shows at the Cathlamet Community Center, Firefighter Waterball on Main Street, and the always popular Vendor Fair which starts at 11 a.m. on Main Street. As the sun begins to set, head down to Elochoman Marina for a night market, music festival at RiverMile38 Brewing, and fireworks extravaganza to close out the festival.
