Support for Justin Moriarty

To The Eagle,

These are the remarks that I made to the Board of County Commissioners on 15 July, 2025. I hope that they are of interest to your readers.

“Honorable Commissioners, When appointed to the office of Wahkiakum County Assessor, I committed to run the office, complete the tasks of valuation, levies, and inspection, and find and train my replacement. I am pleased to inform you that I have completed these tasks.

When you sought applicants for appointment as assessor, you provided me with possible candidates for my replacement. There were four other candidates for appointment to Assessor. I invited all of them to apply for an opening in the Assessor’s office, two of them applied, and I hired Justin Moriarty.

I have known Justin since he moved here in 2021. When he first came to my office, I learned that he was a fee appraiser and suggested that he could serve the county by joining the Board of Equalization. He did so and became chair of the BOE before joining the assessor’s office.

Justin is well-versed, not only in appraisal, but also in current use programs, segregations, analysis, and levies. He moved here to make his home with his wife, Jennifer, and their dogs and cats. He is committed to run for assessor for both the remaining one-year term and the full term. I wholeheartedly endorse Justin Moriarty for election as Wahkiakum County Assessor.

Justin Moriarty has committed to serving the taxpayers of Wahkiakum County and to saving them big dollars. When he is elected, he will be a working assessor and will not replace himself as appraiser, thus saving that expense. I encourage the voters of Wahkiakum County to choose the best assessor and the candidate who will cost you less, Justin Moriarty.”

Bill Coons,

Wahkiakum County Assessor
