Homemakers resume
The Happy Homemakers club resumed their monthly meetings with the Sept. 8 meeting being held at the home of Mrs. Viola Kendall. Pearl Elliot was co-hostess for this month. Mrs. Lola Frink reported to the club members on the series of extension service meetings held during the summer months with extension agent, Pearl Linde. The plans for the forthcoming year and the leadership training program meetings were also discussed.
A brief report on the dangers of possible fire dangers of having glass bottles sitting on window sills or near windows was given. The next meeting will be held on October 6 at the home of Mrs. Gladys Crouse. Mrs. Myrtle Olsen was elected secretary replacing Mrs. Sally Gorley.
To California
Motoring to Monterey, Caif., the week of August 21 was Mrs. Jack Davis, Mrs. Ron Quigly and sons Jason and Brandon. They were to attend the graduation of Pvt. Jack L. Davis from basic training at Fort Ord. Pvt. Davis left the next night for 8 weeks of AIT training at Fort Lee, Va. Stopping at Sacramento along the way they visited with Mrs. Davis’ sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Trujillo

Mr. and Mrs. George Wiens and daughter, Mary Ann of Redondo Beach, Calif., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Ferguson. Wiens served with Ferguson in the Marine Corps during WW II.
Daughters born
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Olsen are the proud parents of a new baby daughter, Nicole Cherie. Nicole was born on September 5 and weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Paternal grandmother Is Mrs. Myrtle Olsen and maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ohrberg.
Grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Witham are the proud grandparents of an 8 pound, 7 ounce baby boy. Donald James was born on September 5 to parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Witham of Ethel. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Spoltore of Longview. Donald joins a sister, Christina 4, at home.
To party
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hamrick attended the second birthday party honoring their great-grandson, Ryan Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Erickson of Grays River on September 4. The celebration was held at the home of Ryan’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Kapron in Grays River.
Houseful
Over the weekend a houseful of people spent time at the Fred Ackermann home. His sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Brott of Spirit Lake, Idaho were in attendance along with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ackermann and children, Mr. and Mrs. John Ackermann and children and Mrs. Cathay Stookesberry and children all of Longview, and Mrs. Irene Lamare and daughter Audrey of Seattle niece of Fred Ackermann and Mrs. George Brott.
Mother visits
Mrs. Dale Roser of Riverside, Calif., mother of Mrs. Jerry Bain, has been visiting at the home of her daughter and family recently after visiting with friends in Seattle. Mrs. Rose is a former Cathlamet resident.
Salmon Derby
The Wahkiakum Anchor club held their Labor Day Salmon derby at Chinook with about a dozen boats participating. Fishing at the mouth of the Columbia the members caught many fish during the day.
